Unions???

Also, just to be clear, the CA was dead set on getting him to where he was going, I thought it would make more sense to find someone at the airport who does wheelchair service to take care of him and make them bill the company double. But the Captain led and I followed as best I could.

You and the pizza cutting monkey turn me on.

this should be good for another 10 pages...

Labor disputes at funerals? They want to talk about dignity? Lawlz

If you croak on a Thursday, the funeral directors go out on strike Friday, and you are buried by replacement funeral directors on a Saturday - are you a SCAB?

If your dad croaks in the same scenario, and you allow him to be buried by replacement workers, would Velocipede allow you on his jumpseat?

Are we having a discussion or simply trying to troll an argument out?

Personally, I've been a card-carrying union member since 1996 and, even though I run the darned website, I don't even care to involve myself in a 10 page discussion that's been beaten to death.

There are two camps here for the most part. Those on the outside and those on the inside of the profession.

Seeing what I've seen from two different airlines... one union airline, the other was non-union until later on in my tenure, I know the value of the protections of having one.

If people outside of the profession won't see eye to eye with me on that, well, tough titty. I've got work to do and it's not on convincing the unwilling to be convinced.

What's to discuss? :)

Nothing hypothetical, but something REAL. If we're going to talk witches, lets talk Wicca and not Harry Potter.

I'm not really sure what your point is. Are you implying that funeral workers are not entitled to having their labor disputes resolved?

Sure, everyone is entitled to having their labor dispute settled. You have a problem? Take it to your employer. If you can't be resolved to your satisfaction, feel free to withhold your services (i.e. quit). Then you're free to seek an opportunity more to your liking, and I am free to hire an employee who will do the work the way I want it done.

My business, therefore my way.

Actually, in a free society, such as America, there is another way to withhold your services. It's called a strike, and that's what these funeral workers are doing. They have the same rights as anyone else, and I don't see why someone felt the need to single them out for some reason.

What business do you run O&M?

Ask your buddy if he wants his wife and kids on an airplane with a pair of sick pilots who have been up for 20 hours.

If he says yes, then tell him his anti union stance is perfectly acceptable.

If he says no, then tell him that's why we need unions.
I haven't read much of this thread, but I think this pretty much answered it on page 1.

LOL... the thread is hilariously depressing.

Employer = Beat idiots & morons into submission, my business, therefore, my way.
Employees = Raaaw! Raaaw! Raaaw!

No wonder the Chinese own us.

Good to know. So, when should I expect my back pay for the countless hours I spend at work without pay?

You are such an amazing mouthpiece for the ills of the American workplace. Thanks! Your words inspire trade unionism! :D

Ills of the american workplace?! Please!! It was your precious union that negotiated for hourly flight pay. You wanted it; you got it, and all that goes with it. If you don't like it, negotiate for something else. But don't act like a victim because because your employer is holding you to the terms of a contract that you negotiated, agreed on, and committed to.

You still haven't told us what business you run while you're a pilot for an air carrier.

A free society is one in which natural laws and freedoms are equally protected all for citizens of that society without prejudice or favoritism. That does not describe labor law, which was bestowed by government and favors unions over employers.
