the pilots just really don't have much of a choice...leave the company & your starting at the very bottom in reserve again - ugh!!

A single, nationwide ALPA seniority list would alleviate this problem, and it would force the carriers to attract and retain quality people. They know they don't have to give a thought to retention now because the seniority system has pilots by the balls. You give pilots an opportunity to move laterally without taking a seniority hit, and all of the sudden companies will start to give a crap about their pilots.

Well I can tell you you couldnt do my job day and day out it sounds like. You probably work 8-5 mon-fri and home on holidays. The reality is that piss poor management at DL goes back many many years long before me. What you dont understand though is Delta has always been a reactive company vs a proactive and now it has finally caught up to them. Long term planning at DL doesnt exist and never has. If it had the company would have been prepared for high oil prices. We are not immune to the world market as they have thought.
What you have to understand also is that in my job decisions are made by people who have never done the job. Some dont even know how to load an -88, one of the most pain in ass to load, but they want to right the rules. Sure they ask our expert opinion. It then is filed with the rest of ideas that will work in the can. As I said earlier until you have worn the steel toes and hot rain gear you dont have anything to say about what I do or how I do it. But thanks for putting your 2 cents in anyway.

Kristie that is one thing I love about being a JC Junkie is that even though I dont fly for a living my opinion and job status are welcome with open arms. What we are is Aviation Professionals with job specfic titles.

A single, nationwide ALPA seniority list would only work out, if every pilot at every airline belonged to ALPA. Another thing is that pilots at different airlines have different salary brackets...

Eta71,

Nah, I was just a bit annoyed by scoobs and his statement about Doug just being lucky to still have a job.
Wasn't pointed to you.

May have been well meaning but came across in another fasion. Perhaps I read it wrong as I've got management troubles of my own at work.
