TSA orders 100 Mitsubishi Jets

When I saw "Mitsubishi Jets," I was thinking of those little business jets Mitsubishi built for awhile under contract from some US manufacturer. I couldn't figure out what the heck TSA would want those for, then I remembered about the MRJ and this thread made a lot more sense. :laff:

lol, yeah I was thinking Beechjet (Beech bought out the Diamond design from Mitsubishi or something like that)

Ah, I stand corrected.

Didn't see the 2014 part. Remember at one point almost every US Airline was like "We gonna fly the Concorde to the moon yo!" and slapped 20 orders down.

True.

How many airlines ordered the 787 during the first year? How many of those orders are firm and deliverable?

Hulas strung the J41 line along for 2 years.

He bought the first E145s super cheap when they weren't selling (and his operational performance almost killed all sales to the point Embraer removed his numbers from the fleet)

So why not buy a jet that's been shopped around for awhile on the cheap, keeping with traditions and all?

Wait wait wait. So youre telling me that youre not excited about more low paying jobs?

I dunno when 'commuters' became 'regionals' but 90 seat jets really don't belong at a place where the better half of the flight crew tops out at 35,000 per year.

Every additional jet brought on at the regional level is what, 10 less jobs at a major?

Although it definitely seems more a negotiating tactic at this point.

It is a LOI. No orders have been placed as of yet. They are going to use the LOI to submit proposals to the mainlines. What ever airline (TSA or GJ) gets the contract gets the planes. This "purchase of 50/100 planes" is all a bunch of fluf. As we all know, a lot can change in four years.

If you mean the Beech/Hawker/Raytheon/Borg 400, you've got it backwards. That was a Mitsubishi design that Beech bought. From my experience, they'd do everyone a favor if they'd buy all of their designs from Mitsubishi and stop inflicting King Airs on the world.

This is going to be fodder until 2014 ... HK says "accept a contract now or I give all the airplanes to GJ.... accept a contract now or we wont be able to afford the new planes ... accept a contract now or we wont be able to find financing for them." Then at 2014 the deal is going to evaporate because all it is a LOI and not a firm order.

In 4 years Gojet would have bought United. Skywest would be buying RAH that's going into bankruptcy, Virgin America would have become a legacy, and Mesa would be a distant memory, with the exception of their 777 Hawaiian operation. So yes a lot can happen in 4 years at the airlines....

TSA is a VERY conservative airline, they wouldn't not, need not do this unless somethings up.

I'm sorry if I was not understood... I mean to say that HK has no real desire to buy any MRJs... unless he can get them very very cheaply. I think its all for leverage both with pilots and other labor groups and with his codeshare partners.

He didn't buy those Embraers until he could get them for practically free, after all

Either that or he's planning on selling his delivery slots to someone else. Not sure how many major airlines' scope clauses would allow them to be flown in addition to what's out there, and I doubt TSA/GoJets is gonna be in a position to strike out on their own. Might be phasing out the -700s by 2014 and replacing them with these, though.

I hate being a regional pilot sometimes. This is what some pilots get a stiffy for. I know this is far, far away but bad news all around.
