This thread got weird and judgey somehow.
I have a feeling that none of us know what the actual economics of being an “influencer” are, aside from some anecdotes where we know that a friend or acquaintance is doing well or not.
So that being said, I’ll throw my anecdote out there. I have a relative who was sort of an influencer well before instagram or TikTok. She has an extremely outgoing personality and is also an expert skier, and gradually leveraged those skills into social media positions with one of the most prominent ski resort companies in the world…essentially evolving from getting paid to make videos of people having fun on the mountain to graphics and editing to marketing strategies.
And she’s leveraged that experience into a successful marketing/communications career. I have no idea how much she makes, but she lives comfortably in one of the awesomest towns in the world and skis like 90 days a year.
Social media based marketing is huge now and is only going to grow. I have no doubt that someone who approaches it intelligently and diligently can make at the least a living and maybe a crap ton of money.
