Torches!

I preflight a 737 with my iphone.

In all seriousness, what would happen if we rolled onto the tarmac ramp with a medieval torch to preflight this bitch? Would it be a signal to the rampers that the exodus has begun? Would they disperse to the outfield and begin communicating via crickets? Would we be able to extinguish it on the gate check luggage before some random passenger got grumpy their pilot cut them in line to the plane? Would the FAs immediately begin washing their undergarments in the forward coffee maker? All unknowable questions until we try my friends.

Used a Fenix flashlight that had: Dim (reading in the cockpit), Bright (finding my *&@%ing pen on the floor), Very Bright (outside preflight), and "Illuminate the Moon" mode in which it would have 2 minutes before it would China Syndrome

No votes for the 3 pack of Tacticool flashlights at Costco? That way when you lose it you’re only out $15-20

Go old school with a D cell Mag-Lite.

I have a 2-D cell maglight in silver color. Went to get some batteries to put in in my flight bag for work. It wouldn’t work, I check the date on the Duracell D Industrial cells, and they had expired in 2016…..and they’re in stock in my office. Complained to a coworker who said “Looking for D batteries? Only thing that uses D batteries anymore are women’s sex toys.” TMI from her……lol

Streamlight, buy once cry once. If you lose it it's your own fault.
I've been carrying the same one of these for over four years in my pants pocket.
As a backup I carry one of these in my shirt pocket.
Customer support is top notch. I've probably owned five Streamlights over the last two decades, for someone that uses them and abuses them on a daily basis I think that number would be higher if I purchased something cheaper. You didn't ask about headlights, but I'll suggest Streamlight again, I've only purchased two. And the only reason I replaced the first one was because I wanted the rechargable version, the AAA version still works perfect as a backup.

Edit to add: I was once doing a wing tank internal inspection on a G-III and I found a Streamlight ignition-proof flashlight in the wing tank with the switch still in the "on" position, replaced the batteries and it still functioned just fine, I think the interval between inspections is two years.

I'm going to retire this one to home use only. It's old, worn down, the switch cover is barely hanging on and sometimes I have to give it a slight tap to get it to work (it's seen some things). I've absolutely gotten my monies worth. I can remember in A/P school an instructor saying to make sure your flashlight can fit in your mouth, then he told a funny story about he and his wife shopping at Sears in the tool dept, years later I agree. If you need both hands and some lumens, unless your flashlight fits behind your ear you might need to put it in your mouth. MicroStream® | Powerful Miniature LED Flashlight | Streamlight®

I have a 5 D cell mag lite I found by the side of the road. Talk about dual purpose.

I had (still have somewhere in the garage) the first series rechargeable they did. it was about the middle in size of their regular D cell line.
