Torches!

Because it's snappier than 'flashlights.'

I need to procure a decent light for my kit. Should be small, powerful and able to fit in a flight kit, bright and focused enough to shine a beam into the nacelle of a -145 RJ while standing in front of the leading edge. (It's a much taller airplane than you'd think.)

I know there's a bazillion options out there. I figure LED for sure, but beyond that - standard batteries? Rechargeable? Expensive? Cheap? What's working for you guys on the line?
Meh, if you're talking tall birds, none of us is lofty enough for a lamp. Buy yourself a pocket magnetometer to check for those errant wrenches left fan-forward in your intake. I think Bass-O-Matic Enterprises sells an updated and economical model.

I left an Easter egg for the next crew in BOI the other night. Banana in the wheel well. I watched them from the terminal and they never found it. Me: 1, some lame obviously boring crew: 0. I imagine some ramper got a little snack though, or maybe a rancher somewhere off the end of 28R.....happy thanksgiving. It was in the crew meal, so it would have otherwise just been in the trash. Just doing my part for the environment.

LMFAO. Are you a current or former Navy pilot? That gag's got Navy written all over it. Also, straight out'a Beverly Hills Cop... banana in the tailpipe.

Wait what?

Wait what?
If I understand it correctly, he said he stuck a foreign object up in the wheel well of his aircraft, on a ramp, which has security cameras all over the place. And then watched another crew member fail to find it. Then did nothing else to correct the situation.

Dick move. Not funny.

It was a BANANA. Even if he actually did it - especially if he actually did it - it's effing hilarious. Woulda been even better if he'd stuck a case of beer up there... nice and chilled on landing.

I know the thread has drifted but the Milwaukee 1100 lumen flashlight is perfect for pre-flighting a heavy jet at night. It can be switched between narrow and wide beam focus so it can really light up the plane. On low, its only 100 lumen which works well in the flight deck. Its USB rechargeable, waterproof, and not too bulky. It takes the same battery as the rest of Milwaukee's small lights so the battery is easy to replace if it ever goes bad (mine still has the orginal battery from 4 years ago.) Also, the color of the light is truer to daylight so I find it easier to notice things during preflight. I liked it so much, I even bought one for my sim partner as a thank you gift when I completed upgrade. Home Depot has sales on them all the time.

Tons of stocking stuffer flashlight deals on Amazon for cyber Monday right now for anybody that needs to stock up.

Something for pretty much all price range recommendations.

Haven't flown it yet. I'll let you know.

By all accounts, they say it's a good "first jet." Some automation, but not too much. Good safety and redundancy systems.
Agree on the 145. As far as the light an iPhone is convenient but not really good enough if we’re all being honest. I don’t think you need some big crazy D cell mag light, something Mexico customs says is a weapon. Just got one of those “wow, try me!” Small flashlights that are readily available at any store.
