To the Moon!

I didn't know it was supposed to happen that way, but my heart definitely jumped into my throat for a second when the first set of drogue chutes detached right before the primaries opened.

Yeah, again the message was positive but it was awkward afterward when the NASA commentator made sure to speak up about the Jesus part. Unnecessary in the moment.

In other news, splash down is today!
I missed that part, I wasn't watching live so had to look up what the actual astronaut said and it didn't seem too bad. Just proves commentators who feel like they need to fill every silence end up ruining everything.

The best part was when the first Seahawk came in way to fast to hoist the crew, and dragged the rescue swimmer on the end of the cable right into the side of the raft.

That’s the risk of a dynamic vs a static hoist deployment. Just do the static if the swimmer is going to be hoisted in. Otherwise 10/10 them in, which would r been easiest.

Just as a "human interest" part of the story, there are dozens of trans women who worked on the Artemis missions.

Pretty much all of them have been forced to leave Florida due to the state's anti-trans laws.

Systems Engineering Supervisor Amy Lendian - NASA — now lives in Chicago. Came to KSC to support during the mission, then had to leave again.

Innumerable others.

A great achievement, but even looking to the future, we mustn't lose track of the present.

Now imagine being born a few years after the first moon landing, semi (-ish) regular return trips and the talk of a brand new space shuttle, America is starting a metric transition and we're going to be on Mars by the 1980's and points beyond before 2000.

Then it all… stopped.

I'm super glad we're doing something, but I'm also a little jaded that with the constant budget cuts to NASA, America's problem with attention spans and the continual 'creeping barrage' on the pillars of education, science and even history to fit a false narrative of "America is awesome because god loves us and Jesus was blonde hair, blue eyed and loves his AR-15 to shoot at the poors and the immigrants", I'm just a little reluctant to scream "We're back and this time we're going to do something with it this time".

All this talk of a moon base just makes me sad that For all Mankind really fell off a cliff and started to suck after the second season.

Same. It went from awesome alternative history to "The O.C." to "The Dukes of Hazard"… "We goin' steal an ast-er-OID, waaaao!"

I'm usually the one drawing parallels with the past and often pointing out how "the good old days" actually sucked as compared to now (crime, standard of living, etc). There are so many parallels between Artemis II and Apollo 8 and it is well known how tumultuous 1968 was in total suckage but I got to tell you - between dealing with everything in 1968 and dealing with everything today, my opinion is that we in 2026 have 1968 beat in terms of total suckitude. I think that makes Artemis hit a little harder and hit differently: will Artemis be a form of Swan Song, the most beautiful song prior to death? Or will Artemis reinvigorate the able and sane ("...while the best lack all conviction.")?

Are you sure? People were angry at the pilot for discounting his race when asked if he was proud to be the first black man to...

Mind you it wasn't the black guy complaining, it was other people complaining that he wasn't complaining. I've said before I thought during Clintons admin we'd sort of decided racism was an old concept and we'd progressed, I thought Clinton was a good president. And along comes Obama and relights that angst, it'll never end if gas keeps getting poured on the fire. A black man gets elected as the president of the most powerful county on the planet and then accuses the people of the country that elected him of being racist. Got to keep that racism scam running, those folks don't actually have real jobs, they rely on outrage. 1968 (before I was born) was at least more honest than today. Women and men of all races are in positions of power in every level from small business to federally appointed positions and the it's the same old rhetoric of oppression because it's trendy to be a victim. If you're not battling personal oppression what would you talk about, baseball?

Dude, you really have to work on your inferiority complex with people of color. I might suggest the comedy "Shrinking" which doesn't deal with your issue, but it somewhat comedically talks about the human condition, suffering and trying to figure oneself out… sometimes on our own, sometimes with the help of others.

If you've literally been given the world by birthright and couldn't leverage that into happiness into your 50's, that's a "You Issue", not anyone else's.

I'm happy. You think I'm angry but I'm not.

I'm happy. You think I'm angry but I'm not.

Oh, I don't think you're angry at all. You're sad and that's OK because you're human like the rest of us…. Even the successful, wealthy "ethnics" and non-Christians you love…err loathe so much. :)

The way you publicly communicate with people exudes this deep bitterness and diffidence that manifests itself into very anti-social behaviors online.

It's always someone else's fault. If not for 'those' people, you'd be further ahead. The whole world of people that are supposed to be underneath you seem to be flourishing whereas you literally left your home in search of that glistening Randian city on the hill. That city that turned out to be "suffering" from more of the same reasons your ideologies drove you self-evict out of your own home in California.

The good news is that we're actually here to help you, but you have to accept it. I don't think you're ready yet, but you will be one day. I'd suggest accepting it before you burn your last bridge.

Welcome to the "Pit".

If anything it was just a beautiful sight to see. It was probably the first time in the past couple of years that I felt proud to be American again. It's a stark contrast to the usual embarrassment I've been feeling lately every time our president opens his mouth. We had little watch parties at home for the launch and splashdown and a lot of the people there with us weren't even space nerds. I enjoyed supplementing the live commentary with my stories and everyone seemed amazed at the feat and had a good time cheering Artemis on. I think this is exactly what we need right now, to bring everyone together in a time of turmoil.

Oh, I peaced out when the writers
went full on cringe porno story line with the wife and her dead son’s friend.
