To the Moon!

I didn't know it was supposed to happen that way, but my heart definitely jumped into my throat for a second when the first set of drogue chutes detached right before the primaries opened.

Yeah, again the message was positive but it was awkward afterward when the NASA commentator made sure to speak up about the Jesus part. Unnecessary in the moment.

In other news, splash down is today!
I missed that part, I wasn't watching live so had to look up what the actual astronaut said and it didn't seem too bad. Just proves commentators who feel like they need to fill every silence end up ruining everything.

The best part was when the first Seahawk came in way to fast to hoist the crew, and dragged the rescue swimmer on the end of the cable right into the side of the raft.

That’s the risk of a dynamic vs a static hoist deployment. Just do the static if the swimmer is going to be hoisted in. Otherwise 10/10 them in, which would r been easiest.

Just as a "human interest" part of the story, there are dozens of trans women who worked on the Artemis missions.

Pretty much all of them have been forced to leave Florida due to the state's anti-trans laws.

Systems Engineering Supervisor Amy Lendian - NASA — now lives in Chicago. Came to KSC to support during the mission, then had to leave again.

Innumerable others.

A great achievement, but even looking to the future, we mustn't lose track of the present.

Now imagine being born a few years after the first moon landing, semi (-ish) regular return trips and the talk of a brand new space shuttle, America is starting a metric transition and we're going to be on Mars by the 1980's and points beyond before 2000.

Then it all… stopped.

I'm super glad we're doing something, but I'm also a little jaded that with the constant budget cuts to NASA, America's problem with attention spans and the continual 'creeping barrage' on the pillars of education, science and even history to fit a false narrative of "America is awesome because god loves us and Jesus was blonde hair, blue eyed and loves his AR-15 to shoot at the poors and the immigrants", I'm just a little reluctant to scream "We're back and this time we're going to do something with it this time".
