Then that's the damn problem. Management is taking advantage of that. I thought you were a big labor guy. When companies cut their workers benefits, you know what I do? I don't go there. I don't tip the poor guys more to make up for it.

If someone is not doing their job, then by all means, reflect that in the tip. After all, if they were your direct employee, you would discipline them if they weren't doing their job. But that's a very high bar.

Most people do not tip maids, and therefore is not exactly "customary." Van drivers are the same (as @Cal Goat mentioned was his experience as one). Both work groups make a full minimum wage (or better) like everyone else in their types of work.

I don't necessarily think it's screwing someone out of money. If they wanted a better wage, they Sikhs have gotten an education that would afford them a job where they didn't rely on tips to survive. To me, your argument is akin to fast food workers "striking" for $15 an hour. Get educated, get a skill, our get used to bring poor.

I think the fact that most say they never do it or have not known anyone that does it makes it not customary.

I'M NOT TIPPING SOMEONE FOR TUCKING THE SHEETS BACK IN, AND EMPTYING A GARBAGE CAN.
 
Every tipping guide I've ever seen has included a tip for the maid, but you want to use a sample of pilots, the cheapest bastards around, to claim that tipping isn't customary?

As I said, people trying to defend the indefensible.

Tipping guides?? Never heard of them. Guess it must not be too customary if you have to reference a book.

This just solidifies my decision to not keep handing out money to everyone with their hand out.
