Throwing fuel on the SDL airport noise fire.....

[ QUOTE ]
This sounds to me like the perfect setting for a coniving developer to get in and stir the pot in favor of shutting the airport down. This developer, or group, will fuel the arguement and in the meantime secure property rights to develop a parcel of land in the vicinity of SDL. Once the debate rages for a few years they will come in an propose a relocation plan for SDL to their area, this will all be under the guise of improving life in Scotsdale both by limiting noise and providing growth opportunity.

The end result will be a mini-version of Denver's DIA: a few people retire comfortably on the deal and the public gets screwed.

Watch out for that one MikeD.

[/ QUOTE ]actually, quite a few of them were talking about tearing down the airport and building residential with a "mall" - can you believe that? it would cost a billion to recoup the revenue and have to go thru hazmat...

geez mikey, they didn't even mention me.. i must not have raised enough hell with you being there in the room.. matter of fact, i remember trying to push you into "your" corner and helping you put your gloves on! hahaha
wink.gif

let this be a lesson - you don't want to get into a heated airport arguement with MikeD without having your checks and balances in place - quite a few people didn't and couldn't argue their point logically therefore Mikey tore em apart...

Mike, sounds like you did a great job defending the airport, and tore some people new buttholes while at it! Awesome dude, I hope you guys are able to keep the airport out there

Responses to my letter I've received so far...it was written to Bob Littlefield and courtesy copied to me. Note: Funny thing, none of my remarks were misquoted by the reporter in question, and the reporter mentioned, Ms. Rebecca Allen, has promptly responded to every e-mail I've sent.....hmmmmm......I sense some backpedaling in progress:

[ QUOTE ]

Bob [Littlefield], I suppose you run into this a lot in your position, people misquoting what you say. I told you the day after the meeting at Grayhawk that I was very cautious about what I said and I chose my words carefully. I DID NOT say we should kick the jets out of Scottsdale. I am Livid!!! I was speaking of a noisy Sabreliner that took off from KSDL one day when I was there and I can understand how the neighbors would be upset with that level of noise, but I also spoke of hush kits that are added to these older model aircraft and how I am sure owners of these older jets are making changes as they can to be better neighbors. I also mentioned in defense of Military aircraft of one day several months back when some jets returning to Luke could not land at either Luke or Deer Valley because of a dust and thunderstorm and came over to Scottsdale. That was it! Ms. Allen with Independent Newspapers Inc. will not return my phone calls, this tells me she does not want to confront me regarding her inaccurate reporting. I did not speak to her as a representative of the APA either. I mentioned I was a member of APA and the positive things we do for all of the pilots in Arizona hoping this would give APA some good press. My personal policy is to refer any quoting that is done on behalf of the APA to made by Arv Schultz and I give them his office number. My honest opinion is that Ms. Allen is working with the Quiet Skies Coalition and was at that meeting just so she could misrepresent and/or twist statements for the benefit of the QSC group.

I wish I went to that meeting at the elementary school. I think most of the complainers are just ignorant. They don't know anything about aviation, and they also don't realize how much revenue the airport brings in. However, if I was at the meeting when the lady stated that pilots who fly in and out of the airport between 10 pm and 6 am, should get citations, well I would have thrown a chair at her respectively. How would she feel if she weren't allowed to drive her car at those times or do any flights out of Sky Harbor at those times because it might make noise???

Cool, I didn't know you are an A-10 pilot, Mike.

Isn't it apparent from his avatar pic?

What's the poop on Stinkbug school, Mike?

That's Jake Busey from the movie "Home Fries" where he plays a nutcase Texas Army National Guard AH-1 Cobra pilot.

Stinkbug school starts in mid-May. Am spending my time this month burning off leave and outprocessing from DM.

.....Or did you like BGen. Jack Ripper better?

Yeah, saw the first part of that on TV recently, couldn't keep my attention.

Air Force wings on an Army Guard pilot...it could happen! The Navy squadron patch blows it, though. Maybe you could get a side gig as a technical advisor to Hollywood, Mike!

MikeD and Kristie called me the night of the meeting. Then Kristie whispered, "I hope Mike doesn't get arrested because he's got some folks all verklempt!"

Well people kill me!

We proclaim to be "American" but we want the crusts cut off our PB&J sandwiches, want to make decisions without consequence (moving close to a busy airport) and want no responsibility.

I think a lot of people got upset because they were staring a vet in the face. The same person they proclaim to support at swanky cocktail parties or in heated political discussions, as long as the solider isn't flying into a local airpark for a sip of JP-4.

Take a peek at your favorite municipal airport, what's going on in Scottsdale might be headed there too. And whatchya gonna do?

We over at danbury are starting to hear more and more outrageous complaints from people around the airport. The sad thing is, most people that are complaining, are living in condos that we built two or three years ago. The airport has been an airport for more than 40 years!!
mad.gif

We are seeing the beginnings of that here in MSP. The apt that I fly out of (KFCM) wants to extend the RW so some larger bizjets can make it in. Just west of the E/W rw there are 500k and up homes being built and they don't want the noise. Hello !!! The apt was there long before your home. I cannot figure out where they get the balls to gripe. Don't complain when you already knew the apt was there. Go Figure.

At the airport I used to fly out of, homeowners in the developments nearest the airport are required to sign away their right to sue. It is part of all the real estate contracts, and it's something the county put into place because they wanted it that way. The funny thing is on final, you're right over a bunch of houses. Heck, if you have to land short, you could just put it down in their cul-de-sac.

The airport I now fly out of seems to be accepted as part of the community. We are required to turn 20 degrees to the right of the runway heading as soon as possible when we depart one of the runways, and we've got a right hand pattern on one of the runways to keep our noise profile as low as possible. But there's no real threat to the airport.

I hope it stays that way, and if things change, you can bet I'll be raising hell.

I just don't understand how people can be so ignorant. I mean they move in knowing quite well that they are living next to an airport. Do they not think airplanes make noise? I just dont understand how people can be so stupid. Sure i could understand it if the airport was built after they moved there but instead they move in after its been there for 40 years good grief give me a break. I would rather see them go than an airport.

Makes perfect sense from a capitalist standpoint. All people see is how cheap the property is, and once it's theirs, they do whatever they can to increase its value.

[/ QUOTE ]Mav, that's exactly what we asked them too... we'd say stuff like "loop 101 was finished after i bought my house and it's creating a heck of a lot of noise.. how would you feel if you were restricted to driving a section of it only during certain times of the day?! they were all like "you can't do that though"....therefore, no answer to the question.

then we started talking about how property taxes would probably go up 10-20,000 a year if the airport shut down.. one guy actually had the balls to say "sure, i'd pay that for the airport to be gone"... yeah right you would.. dork!

Oh yeah......THAT guy.

Oh, to wonder what would have been had young Kristie not arrived when she did......

[ QUOTE ]
Mr. Gray attributed that in part to the reduction in nosier Stage 2 aircraft that have been replaced or modified.

[/ QUOTE ] Is that nosy as in intrusive, or big-schnozzed airplanes?

Would a displaced rwy 21 threshold further south, with a base leg over the golf course work?

On another note, isn't Luke AFB facing a similar situation? I would think that would be a more serious loss...
