Things I like about Aviation (or in general..)

I like throwing the wife in the back and going for a 3 day vacation.
I like Oshkosh.
I like drinking (I thought all pilots are required to drink).

I like sleeping in.
I like strong black coffee.
I like people in general.
I like cross countries to new airports.
I like BSing with airport bums.
I like greasing the first landing on a type of plane that I've never flown before.
I like drinking Iced tea.
I like sunshine.
I like flying inverted, and 5-turn spins.
I like running.
I like pizza with my sister and niece.
I like a good St. Emilion Bordeaux.

I love that I just described my day today.
(for all the trouble there is in the world and life, days like today, and threads like this, make up for it)

I like coming in northbound on long final into KGPM and have the skyscrapers of Ft. Worth and Dallas in my windscreen at the same time. Having lived here all my life it really reminds me of my childhood where everything was so big and far around me..and now it fits in my windscreen and seems so small. Aviation truly does shrink the world.

A few more to add to the pile:

I like that when I look out my window in the morning, I can see the sunshine on the water sparkle. Reminds me of some of the happier times in my childhood.

I like that Maddoggydog is buying the beer tonight. :D

I like that hope truly does spring eternal.

I like that NetJC in Vegas is 2 1/2 months away now! :rawk:

You know those days when that everyone complains about? The "Oh man, we've gotta shoot an approach/reroute around storms/coordinate with ATC/etc etc"? I love those days :) There's nothing better than knowing that you just dealt with the some of the most mentally stressful job conditions in the world safely and efficiently, hopefully had fun doing it (I always do!), and doing it in a way so that the passengers never knew there was a issue.

I love it when I fly someplace and surprise my friends/family members that I haven't seen for a long time by calling them and telling them I'm in town, and three hours later I'm having a beer/dinner with them.

I'm gonna steal my favorites that others have posted already...

I love the crisp cool air at 7,000 when its 90-100 down below.
I love working a long day, going home, writing it in my logbook, and flipping through the pages to relive some of those experiences
I love flying, always have, always will.
I like flying just above the clouds where the plane is almost touching the tops and you get to appreciate the speed you are actually doing.

I like the way I feel after a good flight.
I like flying in the evening or early in the morning in nice calm clear weather.
I like the fact that I'm actively employed in a career that a lot of people do for a hobby.

I like the respect I immediately get from people when I tell them I'm a pilot. Deserved or not, it feels good to see someone's eyes light up and say "Oh cool!"

I like that someday when I die, I can say I did something I loved for a living.
I like hearing the words "your airplane".
I like the fact that no matter how bad a flight has been (re-routed, crap weather, etc.) when you grease the landing and the pax tell you how nice the flight was.

I like that after 10 years of this off and on relationship, I still get the butterflies when I feel the mains lift off.

I like the way I am forever humbled everytime I see a sunset above a cloud deck.
I love breaking out at mins. something about going 130-140 kts 200ft above the ground and only seeing a couple lights and having that be good enough.

I love hand flying the airplane.

I love flying a visual approach and having everything work out just barely because you know your airplane. As fast as you can until the last minute but being configured and stable right at 500 ft.
I like flying over a traffic jam on the highway, and thinking, "suckers"

I like flying to podunk airports in the middle of the desert and talking flying with the crusty old dudes...man do they have some stories.

I like it when air traffic controllers thank you for your help when you do them favors on a busy day.

:yeahthat:

I love my job!

I love the people. On any random day I can fly into a new airport in a state I have never been in before and everybody on the property is already my friend.

I love that every plane has a history and stories from those that flew her before.

I love that its participants are largely there for the passion of it. (certainly aint the money now is it!)

I love not having flown in two months or more, having a job checkride and having the best landing out of the last 50.

I love hangars and the atmosphere they provide, story telling.

I love getting in my car after a long day and doing a 15 second stare at the steering wheel trying to figure out why there are 3 pedals and a round thing.

I love that we can take math, physics, and art and turn it into a profession.

Good posts, folks!

I love cruising out to the airport and seeing MY airplane waiting for me...knowing that in mere moments, I will soon be doing what so few people will ever do.

I like that I have a job that I really enjoy and look forward to doing.

I like cruising nice-n-low on a crisp, cool morning.

I like taking friends for rides and seeing the "grin" when they "get it".

I like that I have my health, my family and a FABULOUS woman that loves me and doesn't mind that I have a mistress too much (and NO, I will not post her pic).

I really could keep going, but I am truly happy with my life and am not really sure what I did to have such a great life, a wonderful home and the greatest family one could ever ask for.

I like lots of things aviation related, but one thing stands out that I'll never be able to forget probably. If I close my eyes and can transport myself to that moment and feel it as if it were real. I was about Maggie's age (12) and got a ride in a Clip-Wing Monocoupe. Airplane had a 185 hp Warner, was incredibly cramped, but just absolutely kicked ass. Just amazing acceleration. After a low fly-by at 220+ pulling into an incredibly steep climb that never seemed to end - airplane just kept going upstairs. Absolutely incredible. The noise, getting to fly it in the air (I was surprised at how heavy the ailerons were, and the elevator and ailerons didn't have balanced forces like the Waco's (couldn't reach the rudders then). Just an amazing machine I'll never forget. This is the plane:

It's like a Bearcat in that way. But, the light weight, and relative horsepower being pulled by that big prop was a fun ride.

I wanna fly in one of those (even if I'm not the one at the controls) soooooooooo bad!

bump.

... because this is good stuff. ;)

I like that the aviation safety bill passed, and that things like intentionally scheduled minimum legal rest overnights will soon be a thing of the past.

I like free hotel breakfasts with hot, fresh eggs.

I like hot coffee during cruise flight on a cold morning.

I like having those "ah-ha!" moments during training and suddenly everything starts to click.

I'm training for my instrument right now, so there's been a few of those moments recently. :D

I liked farting in a 152 and watching my instructor gasp for air. Talk about a rolling dutch oven.

On a serious note, as a tech geek the current state of avionics makes me drool.

I also like people that aren't self-righteous and tattle to the FAA about every little thing

I like the sound of landing a flying boat on the water..

Love step taxis down rivers - as well as flying seaplanes in the ground (water) effect over large lakes.
