That's strange. I guess it could be a headset problem. Whenever I plug mine into a f/w to r/w converter, and then into the comm panel on the helicopter, I can't use the ANR because when I turn it on there's way too much static. I thing some headsets just don't work well with some comm systems.

which sucks because i have spent a good deal of time in the 172s this semester, more time in other A/C but still a good deal of time in the 172.

it gets really goofy to the point if i move my head to a different position while PTT is pressed it is fine. no issues with listening to the radio calls or with the intercomm, just with PTT

acutally now it has a howling sound, so the problems it had before are not fixed and are now in fact a little worse
