The mentality of a "Fast-Track" program and low time commercial airline pilots...

HA! Remeber those tattoo's we were gonna get of Hobbs meters that instead of numbers it said "milk 'em" :)

Heh. I remeber that.

I also remember you trying to prop start on of the 172s (181 maybe?), coming in drench in sweat and exhausted mumbling "181 defeated me...."

A few things, first there is NOTHING wrong with anyone going to ATP or a fast-track program. That is the individual.

I have a problem with the mentality that is fostered by these fast-track advertising and 'get their the quickest' ideas.

I did my ratings quickly at a local FBO like yourself. HUGE difference.

Seggy, I see what you are saying and agree- but the schools you are talking about all are competing with each other for student business, and this is the material that gets more programs sold. Seeing where they are coming from, if I can convince students better that I will accomplish their goals better and faster, maybe/maybe not cheaper, I will get more business. It totally makes sense to me therefore, why they do this kind of advertising. No flight school is going to become the good samaritan and change their techniques and advertising at the expense of their earnings. Thats just something the shareholders of said schools wouldn't allow. I agree with you about the mentality though, but I think you are taking upon yourself a weighty task to want to change this.

Doug posted one word: money. Unfortunately, we're all slaves to it and it creates quite a few problems in such a roller-coaster industry. It is up to us to inform and educate people to see beyond the hype that preys upon people's dream to become a "jet pilot." This task I believe is one that is more manageable.

Question is, Bob, are they a joke b/c the instructor prepped you for a specific examiner or are they a joke b/c you were prepared for anything?

I could train anyone to pass a checkride with a certain examiner in GKY, but I wouldn't feel right about it.

YUP, PTS maneuvers are PTS maneuvers. Its a song and dance, that has meaning, but still a song and dance nonetheless.
