The coolest thing that I've noticed about our lines is that being based in PSP I can overnight in SNA two out of the four nights of my trip. This means I sleep in my own bed two nights out of four. Then the other three days that I"m off I'm home anyway! YAHhhhh!!!!

Next best thing is I can be based in SAN and havea co-domicile of CLD/CRQ. I don't know why they refer to carlsbad as CLD because the identifier on charts is CRQ. Anyways, even though I'm based in SAN I can fly out of CLD everyday and be home everynight because CLD is only 15 minutes from my house! Another YEAHHHHH!!!!!

This gonna be awesome!!!!!

The only bad part is gonna be on Friday when I show up with no real uniform. YUP thats right. I haven't received my uniform yet so they told me to report to duty wearing a white shirt and black pants. I do have my leather jacket with the epualettes but leather jacket in 80 degree weather is not gonna look good. We'll see what happens. Laterz

Get a tie...and wear the jacket over the shirt.

OH!, and Congrats.

I say Hawaiian shirt, shorts, and flip flops :-D

Want some free advice? Buy a pair of car windshield sunshades and keep them in your flight bag. They'll come in handy sitting on the ground in the Brasilia. My roommate loved mine.

That SNA-LAX trip looks like a killer! It's what, 9 minutes flight time? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I can't believe they even service that route!

CLD is the city code for Carlsbad. CRQ is the airport code. I believe the city code came first, so that's why they use it. CRQ was built as the relief for the old Del Mar airport (that used to be just south of the fair grounds) which was closed the 5 freeway was built through the final approach path.

i may be flying witha student either sat evening or sunday morning at RDD (Redding). I will look out for you!!!!

Omar! How did the first day go?! (well, technically, how is it going, but i figure you wont read this til your done!) Congrats man!

Here's the skiny as to why Carlsbad uses two identifiers. The are two CRQ's. One is Carlsbad, CA USA. The other is Caraquas(SP) Venezuala. So airline adopted CLD, so that people and bags didn't end up in Venezuala!

What time were you in FAT on Fri. I fueled every Skywest flight after about 1300, I don't remember seeing you.

aaaaaaahhhh!!!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/insane.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/insane.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/insane.gif

I can't beleive I did it! My first day! I had a HUGE smile on my face the whole time! I knew the IOE(Initial Operating Experience ) captain from when I was ramping in PSP and he told me to request him if I wanted to when finishing the aircraft checkout. I think with the combination of having a familiar face(coolest guy you would EVER meet) and flying around my stomping grounds all day, the day went fairly well. We started off in PSP and the drive over was great.

Got there and sat around for about 30 minutes getting battered by all my old ramp buddies. It felt weird walking in that hall in a pilots uniform instead of a ramp uniform. Of course they made all the smart jokes about how pilots this and pilots that and you better not be like them. Ha ha ha.

After that was done, I met up with the IOE captain and we went over what the day would be like and he was nice enough to say,"I don't care about a single flight today as far as on time goes, its your day, we can go as slow as you need too, please don't worry AT ALL about anything. Let me know if you see ANYTHING that puzzles you etc etc etc". This guy is a true class act. Gentleman all the way!

After the flight attendant showed up we walked out to meet the plane since it had just arrived. All throughout ground school they always told us to watch tail numbers cuz people HAVE taken off in the wrong plane b4. Well, the plane that showed up was supposed to be ours and we were about to start preflighting when we realized it wasn't ours.

Waited another 30 minutes then got started. He flew the first two legs so that I could breaking the process easy. Flew PSP to LAX then LAX to SNA (home turf). I had the leg then from SNA to LAX. Man that went by QUICK! Theres nothing like the feeling of getting the call to position and hold on the runway and the captain then saying, "OK.....you have the flight controls!!!!" GULP!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/insane.gif I don't know how long I'm gonna have butterflies in my stomach everytime he says that.

So flying my leg from SNA to LAX was cool. When landing in LAX I was cleared for the visual in common so cal haze and was instructed to follow the heavy 757 to 25R. Since I was flying the captain had the radios. Brought it in and was somewhat dazed by all the haze. Its funny flying in the same area in a different plane, things look somewhat different.

Then about 5 miles out I got off centerline just enough to give me a gut check. The captain real quietly so as to not to disturb me says, lets get back on centerline". Right then and there it hit me! FINALLY! I knew it was coming eventually and it hit me at the worst possible time. I was flying something that weighed over 12,500, had 30 people in the back, was going into LAX, was told to keep my speed up behind a heavy 757 and and and...........aaaahhh! I held it together the best I could and crossed over the threshold and greased it in!!! For some reason my best part of flying has always been my landings???? I guess I'm real lucky.

We then taxied to the gate and the rest of the day went something like that but every leg built up my effeciency by about 1000%.

So I'm sitting in our hotel room right now and I'm gonna go catch a movie with the flight attandant. (shes hot! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/buck.gif) then our show time is about 5 pm.

See you guys later!
