Has it always been popular in this industry to hate your job?

Especially now that he's here posting, I'm not sure there is anything that embodies what our community stands for than someone who enjoys what they do and aspires to educate others on their chosen path.

Whether you're a student pilot that feels like the day the money begins flowing INTO your bank account is an eternity away or someone who has attained their dream job, people who are willing to share their passion for this industry do a great service. We all fall into a rut sometimes, occasionally it takes someone posting a cool picture or video to remind us that what we do is pretty amazing and that we are lucky to do it.

The whiners remind me a lot of a phenomenon I've noticed among parents on Facebook. It's like a competition to see who is having the biggest struggle.

I'm sure there's always been a certain level of feigned indifference for coolness. I think recently, though, the increase of people hating on people who enjoy their job is directly tied to the rise of the phrase "shiny jet syndrome."

That crap is everywhere and God help the poor kid who displays ANY inkling of liking the EMB 175! His peers will crucify him... Literally, if the could. I feel that in order to avoid that persecution people will get hyper sensitive to any display of liking airplanes. Then they'll jump on the bandwagon of hate to protect themselves.

Tldr it's because of our own insecurities and desire for peer acceptance.

Tough to work for $19,000 or whatever it is in the right seat of an airplane that only needs 1 pilot and live in Hawaii.

Is ExpressJet even hiring, BTW? On the contrary what regional ISN'T desperate for pilots.

This is why 'we do the same job!' is meaningless for recruiting cred at other airlines. Ive flown with plenty of guys who were fine pilots but I would never want to sit in a cockpit with them ever again and most would agree.
 
I personally enjoyed the videos. His enthusiasm for the job is refreshing and it's something all pilots once had and even still have buried beneath all of that crust and salt that has built through the years :D

Now the "I don't want to fly for the airlines unless they want to hire me guy" is wayyyy worse. I followed that clown on ig for some reason. You think his ig posts are bad you should see the stories he posts. Awful. Could only take a day of it before unfollowing.
 
Nicely done video ( only watched his last one). Nice of the PIC to let him do that, not sure I would have, but not my boat.
Our operation is VERY sensitive to recording anything, and even having a cell phone on, let alone actively recording anything on a revenue flight.
 
I live in Honolulu, have flown Mokulele to Kona and back and had a friend that worked there so I was pretty stoked to stumble upon Swayne's vids. They're well done post card quality video's of Hawaii. The kids enthusiasm for aviation is infectious. As a Hawaiian language speaker I also appreciate that he pronounces Hawaiian names mostly correct, better than a lot of people who are from here. Good luck Swayne!

Isn't right seat Caravan time worthless? Are people just joining Mokulele in a SIC capacity as a means to get to the left seat?

Just curious. And thanks for sharing Swayne.
 
Watch the video. Mokulele's "rules of engagement" require 2 pilots. Therefore fully logable.
