Swayne coming to a 121 near you

Talked? I'm half sterile, son, it took us seven years to make two kids.

My wife isn't the only one who needs to be flexible in life. Our marriage is two people, not either of us telling the other what to do.

Sometimes flexibility means doing things my wife needs because it allows life to work.

I don’t disagree at all. Do you think I’m implying otherwise?

Eh, more or less. I think the East Bay is pretty much perfection on Earth, and if and when the tech industry pooplords run out of money (lol, fat chance) I'd like to live there again.

It's been ridiculously gray and dreary here in IL this week.

Nonsense. If I learned anything growing up in a military family and spending a career in the military, the wife is there to dutifully move when required to. Jobs and extended family are luxuries they need to learn to deal without.

It’s called being a good husband. Geez, learn about it.

Pretty much, I just developed a pretty heavy disdain for this place. Lived there most of my first year, couldn't wait to get out.
I bet you're talking about Chicago. I cannot stand Chicago. Literally one of my least favorite places in the nation.

Whaaaa? I can understand not wanting to live there (though as far as cities it’s size, it’s better than most) but what a great place to visit!
Visit? Hell yeah. I just don’t really care for spending an appreciable amount of time there. Just not the lifestyle I like.

It’s just different strokes for different folks. Having lived in 3 of the 4 largest cities in the US (NYC, CHI, HOU) + Seattle, my personal opinion is that Chicago is, by far, the best “big city” in the US. CHI offers great amenities at a fraction of the cost of NYC/SF/DC.

That said, if you’re not a city person, Chicago is just as bad as anything else. It’s big, it’s crowded. It’s way more expensive than your average US city. If the city isn’t your scene, I could definitely see not liking it. Nothing wrong with that.

Oh man of the cities you listed I’d take Chicago any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Houston would be fine if it wasn’t a 90° and a billion percent humidity half the year. But yeah I’m not really a “live in the big city” type but it sure is fun to visit.

Chicago really is a fun town, but I’m a “in small doses” kind of guy. Sweating your ass off on the blue line after a 13 hour day gets pretty old compared to getting in my car and drivin 15 minutes home like I used to. And I generally dislike people so big cities make me crabby after a while. Some super fun areas though. Bucktown/Logan Square can be a lot of fun. Great food/bar scene.

Man I would take ANY of those cities above. Hell, any base that isn’t sitting close to the Pacific Ocean. As it stands, all I got now are ANC/SEA/PDX/SFO/LAX.

Boooooooooooo

I do enjoy visiting when it's not freezing cold. But NY and Philly remain my two favorite larger cities in the US. Philly mostly because I'm from there and forced to like it. But for living, give me a small to medium sized city with amenities, but the means to escape and a mild climate. Guess that's why I'm one of the weirdos who chooses to live in a place like Albuquerque.

I take it you don’t care much for the mountains?

Meh you can get mountains for cheaper elsewhere. Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Nevada, etc. heck even the east coast mountains (no they aren’t hills). I vacationed in TN once, the Smokey mountains were nice. Not like the Teton mountains we saw in Wyoming but still very cool in their own way.

CA is too crowded, waaay too expensive, and too liberal. But the biggest thing is distance to family. I’d take any base in the Midwest or East. Texas, Illinois, NY, Florida, you name it I’ll go there. Though it’s gonna take another merger to make that happen.
