What does an assistant dispatcher do? Is it basically a fancy term for a trainee or does an assistant have a distinct job function?

fancy term for trainee

you'll sit with a Dispatch Trainer and pretty much 'run' the desk. the more comfortable you get, the more the Trainer will let you be alone

So, for how long? Is someone going to be sitting with the newbies for a year watching over them??

Well, you won't sit a desk every shift. There is an Assistant Desk. Among the tasks assigned to the assistant is general support to the NOC during irregular operations, including confirmation and coordination of services at offline alternates, disseminating operationally relevant information about the operation to other departments external to the NOC, and of course administrating the ubiquitous Nutritional Assurance Program.

What does pay start out/top out
at and what is schedule there

When I interviewed there pay topped around $140k. I can't remember starting pay, but want to say it was in the neighborhood of $48k. I remember the schedule being something like a 6-2;6-2;6-6 rotation.

Sounds about right for starting pay. All else is correct.

all else is not correct-

schedule is 6 on 3 off, 6 on 3 off, 6 on 6 off- BUT when you upgrade to Dispatcher (in about a year) you'll be on reserve (bottom 20%)

your days off will be wacky (too hard to explain here)

starting pay is 53k (sans OT)

top out (sans OT) is 156k

and FOR THE LOVE OF GOD- if you do get the job, PLEASE don't be one of those from another airline that says (back at XYZ, we did it this way and it was SO much better) ^^

Doh! Guess it pays to READ the darn post carefully. Remember though that your humble assistants make 74% of scale, so it comes out to around $48k.

Oh, and the listing is up! No link since I'm on my phone, but you know what to do!
