Swa to hire 9

Any clue why the posting stayed up for so long this time?

"they" realized that the app system was flawed as it shouldn't just "fill up" at a number, "but allow everyone to apply within a reasonable time. that way the "best" applicants have a chance to apply, not just the lucky "window scorers"

Is that popular? What's the benefit?

Not that I couldn't do 6 days. I have worked 90 days straight a couple times. 6 is a walk in the park.

WILDLY popular- the place will shut down if you take away that 6 day break every month

it was adopted from American years and years ago

if you would of asked, I GUARANTEE they not only would of let you see it, but let you sit with a dispatcher for as LONG as you wanted. I have had interviewees sit with me in the past. did you ask?

Don't remember asking, but to be honest - after the experience I had with the group interviewing me - I didn't really want to. We definitely didn't "click" on any subject, as was evidenced by my TBNT email. In any case, I don't feel it's something you should have to ask for. With one other exception, every place I have interviewed afforded me a chance to see the office (and usually sit with a dispatcher) without asking first. I am not trying to sound like I am crying over spilled milk here, either - if the interviewers felt like I wouldn't be a good fit for their needs, it's probably for the best that no offer was ever given. I just was not that impressed with the interview process used.

It's been my experience that a tour of the Operations Center means the interview went well. If you don't get that tour the TBNT email is following you out the door!

Yeah I'm pretty sure any attempts to wrest the current rotation out of our hands would be met with a mob action. :-)

If SWA calls you down to test
and interview you at a later date
is that true? How long is their test
and what does it cover mostly like Wx,regulations etc. I know AA test questions came from the ATP book
and is it multiple choice

I've been on at least 3 SWA interviews (not dispatch but Operations, Ramp) and always came away with the impression they were looking more for personality then anything else....you know, someone that will fit in to their CULTure.

I've never interviewed with them, but from what I have heard from others is that it is fill in the blank and that it covers a good amount of obscure pilot and dispatch knowledge. As I have heard of someone on this forum say before, know everything!

kind of ironic that you poke fun by emphasizing "CULT" and that you've tried to land a job at SWA 3 times... don't ya think?

to say that the same person or even interview team expects the same exact thing (whether it be ramp, ops, or dispatch) is kinda dumb

maybe it wasn't the CULTure... maybe it was... umm.. YOU?

Maybe someone is being overly sensitive?

I have friends who work at SW and absolutely love it. I also work with someone who had a job in SOC and didn't like it - he ended up going back to his old airline, and eventually found his way to where I work. No one company is a perfect fit for everyone.

I am glad you like it where you work, but I don't understand your evident need to criticize anyone who has had a negative interview experience with your company - because I have met more than one person who wasn't at all impressed with it, myself included.

oh puhleez manniax

overly sensitive? the guy/gal calls where I work a CULT and I'm supposed to be ok with it? If it's so cultish, then why would NO SE want to work there in the first place? No, SWA isn't perfect. There I said it.

And the by the way, your example of JP has nothing to do with being "impressed". There's WAY more to that story.

You'll gross around $53k/yr as an assistant.

Cannot answer to the crashpad situation here.

SWA, haters gonna hate, I guess. :-) Mannix hit it on the head though; one man's paradise is another man's purgatory. For me, I couldn't possibly be more thrilled to be here.

If I recall the test is a combination with a bunch of multiple guess and fill in the blank stuff. Know how to read navigation and weather charts, have your head around weather concepts, basic FARs. I didn't find it terribly tricky so long as you know your dispatching. I certainly didn't get the feeling the test was geared towards tripping you up.

The comment about SWA wanting people that they believe will fit in with the culture is true, but that's true of every place you'll ever work as a dispatcher. It's incumbent on the hiring manger to find people who they feel will merge with their operation the smoothest. The fact that WN is less apologetic about that is ancillary to the fact that you're being judged in that respect EVERYWHERE you go, and that is just the reality of employment in America.

While it's up to everyone who posts here, I think it's generally best if a person's name or initials aren't used - especially if they aren't a participant in the conversation and thus unable to provide their side of the story. And before anyone labels me as an grouch or airline hater - although it may be too late! - I wish the best of luck to everyone who applies for the SWA job. I do agree with pljenkins on the test - it wasn't super easy but as long as you know your dispatch basics you should be fine. I don't remember any trick questions on it either.

I'm not exactly the first guy to come up with the concept of a Corporate Cult, there have been books written on it, even specifically Southwest. It's nothing new in the airline bus,, Delta was like that back in the 70's-80's, Pan Am, Braniff in the 60's, 70's.

If you haven't burned your ADX prep book dust it off. There are a few of those type of questions.
