I hate when plane survivors claim God was with them and saved them. Yeah, because that same God also killed thousands of innocent men, women, and children on countless jetliners like Air India 182 bombing, Pan Am Lockerbie, Malaysian shot down, Bashkirian midair killing gifted children, etc. God obviously didn't want to save any of them.

Sometimes his hands are tied up trying to pick who scores a touchdown in all of the college and nfl games. Sometimes he has enough free time to save people from plane crashes. All about timing.

Cabin O2 masks are ineffective against fumes and/or smoke. They mix ambient cabin air with a low flow of oxygen. Just enough to kick up the O2 level until you can descend to a lower altitude to kick up the partial pressure.
Yea, my reply posted before I added the no idea. However I've seen the masks drop on every video of a commercial aircraft with an engine failure involving smoke.

Who cares, it's how they deal with the problem. You obviously care enough to complain about it. How about this, I hate when people complain about what other people believe in.

30/70 rule. Captains will do the walk around 30% of the time when it's sunny and in the 70s. :)

I was jumpseating on a USAirways 737-300 (so it was a while ago) and they had just started hiring a few guys off the street. The FO was brand new and got to the plane late due to a last minute reserve call out. The captain was briefing him on the way to where ever we were going (DCA maybe?) and said that if the weather was good, the FO would do the walk around. If the weather was bad the captain would do it. The FO starts to tell him how nice that is when he says "and in 32 years of flying I haven't seen a bad weather day yet."
