Sully's New Book

Just backs up my post I made earlier. This industry is infested with people who can't take themselves let alone their careers seriously. When will they grow up?

I'm pretty sure Spooky is a retired DAL pilot, not some youngster, but I could be wrong. And quite frankly, there's a lot of us out there that don't feel too hot about Sully. A good friend of mine that was his ALPA rep is being sued by him, so I'm not exactly objective, though.

Do you know him? He has a rep which often may or may not be true. My friends uncle blows goats...a rumor, truth, somewhere in between? No way to make a judgement on a guy without knowing him...especially on the net.

His name is listed as a plaintiff on the lawsuit against my friend. I don't need to know the guy personally to know that I don't respect him.

Just because he is suing someone doesn't make him a bad guy. You don't like him for suing your friend. I've had to sue someone...does that make me a bad guy? My bet is his friends didn't like or respect me either. Maybe your friend is the bad guy in this, he is being sued afterall. No way to draw judgement from that.

I'm not going to get into the details here, but I know the details of the case, and I know who's in the right, and it's certainly not self-serving Sully.

I was just about to post the same...you beat me to it.

No offense meant...but that makes the lawsuit irrelevant to this discussion. We don't expect you to go into the details of the case; it's none of our business. But at the same time, without the details, you can't expect us to take your word for it. I realize you said that the lawsuit makes you biased; but please don't try to use it to bias everyone else.

I'm not. I really don't care what you think of the guy. But don't get all upset when some of us don't think he's the frickin' second coming.

But don't get all upset when some of us don't think he's the frickin' second coming.

Didn't and don't.

I'm just sayin', I don't have any direct knowledge about Sullenberger short of how the events on the Hudson were covered by the media - clearly that's an incomplete, biased story. I'm interested in reading his book, but I'm smart enough to realize that it's coming from the biased perspective of Sullenberger. Like him or love him, I think that's a compelling perspective, and I personally think the book's worth reading for that perspective.

I once read a couple biographies on Amelia Earhart...it's an extremely interesting story. Does it mean I think she's the second coming? No, I personally don't believe she was even a very good pilot (how's that for flame bait?).

Again, no offense meant.

Of course you do and it's secret :yup:

Never said that but unless you know the guy....regardless of your friend's lawsuit....you don't know him and knocking his lame without knowing his lame. A friend's super secret lawsuit doesn't cut it.

Sorry, but I don't feel any need to answer to you. I think the guy's a doosh. You obviously don't. Have at it.

Of course you don't, you seem to form opinions based on not knowing people anyway :) Why respond as well. Maybe if I had a super secret lawsuit I could be too!! I've never said whether the guy is rock solid or a . Know why? I don't know him. What I do know is very basic...he was an AF pilot, a captain of an airliner and safely put an airplane in the drink without loss of life. So he did a good a thing with respect to setting the aircraft down. To judge him without knowing him is lame, period, end of story.

HOW in Christ's name does that possibly "back up" anything you said?
Intentionally mis-spelling someone's name and doing is so arrogantly and obnoxiously is disrespectful, PERIOD.

This is all a bit funny. Sully is working with a writer to ghost a book and that event is enough to bring all sorts of comments, including many that have nothing to do with the book or the accident. And the book is not even out yet. Funny...

You've already admitted your bias by stating your friend is in a law suit with him.

At risk of getting back on topic... give Sully a break. Jeeze, any of us in the same situation would want to capitalize financially. The guy is not a charity worker... he is a professional and an employee who has saved lives and deserves whatever $ he can get!!!

.... everyone that landed a twin jet in a river with 100+ pax raise your hand.

.... this is surreal. The guy screwed up how exactly? How many people walked away from the forced landing? I'd think he did his job extremely well.

No wonder. If we eat our own in this way, what does that mean for the industry? What kind of support do you expect from the public?

So if one gets a chance to make a real difference in the world for once, this is the kind of treatment that one can expect? If I had a loved on that flight that was able to show up for dinner after the event, I could only be eternally grateful. ... or am I missing something here?

Exactly right Henri. He did his job extremely well.
And that's ALL Chesney did, his JOB.
Why all the melodrama then?? Why the attempts to nominate Chesney as the 3rd Wright brother?? He did his job. He applied his training and performed a landing he was trained to do. He was successful in the outcome because while he was applying the training he'd received all the other factors that were in play that day (weather, wind, river traffic) broke perfectly for a positive outcome. It wasn't a miracle. Not by a longshot. A rarity yes. A miracle no. Most pilots handed the same exact circumstance would have delivered a similar outcome.
Chesney Sullenberger did his job and did it well. For that he should be thanked not knighted. Sadly Chesney's ego does not allow for a simple thank you. He's going to pimp every dime on his way to knighthood ...for simply doing his job.

Again, your post reaks of insecurity and jealousy. He did his job and maybe it was mostly luck. I'd rather be lucky than good anyday. What have you done in comparison? Land an airliner in the water? Fly for the military? Captain of an airline? Maybe normal stuff, except for the first part. And because of it, he gets the glory. That's the way it is and for that, he earns to the right to write a book or give speeches. We don't know what would have happened with other pilots and you certainly don't know how you would have handled it being you weren't there. You can armchair QB but without being in his shoes, you're reaching.

How many books are in my personal library of pilots telling their stories? So one pilot fly's 75 missions over Vietnam, so did many. Another shoots down 5 aircraft to be an ace in WWII...so did many. I've got a book about a Naval Aviator being a Naval Aviator just like thousands have done. They were simply doing their job right? Why write a book? What gives them a right to tell their story, what they did wasn't a miracle, just aviators doing their duty....those ego maniacs!! How dare they
