Sully's New Book

Maybe he's part of the media group? Build them up, and help bring them down. Makes for good ratings. Mark my words, the media is waiting for something bad to happen to this guy so they can jump on the hero.

The media will have to get in line behind many of the aviators on various avaition boards. Not surprising. It goes with the territory.

Yeager was lucky.
Crossfield really wasn't that good.
Armstrong knew people.

The ol' Green-Eyed Monster is alive and well, apparently! :insane:

You know what disappoints me even more, I'm sure Sully frequents all these boards and see's his peers putting him down. I'm sure at his age he understands somewhat why they have that animosity towards him, but in the end, its just disappointing, unfortunate, and unnecessary.

The worst to me, are people that really are super talented and smart, yet get no accolades, or don't until it's past the time when they deserve them.

Life's a biatch. Sometimes the sun shines on you and sometimes it doesn't. My bet is Sully probably wished none of this had happened, his career was as it was the morning prior to the mishap. Sometimes things happen to us and you have to deal with it. I for one am very interested in his story. He's a guy with no more success than any other and had one moment in time where things went bad but in reality, worked out for him, his crew and his pax.

One thing about pilots, from my perspective and that's the military perspective. We have ego's and are very easy to slam other's whether they succeed or fail. I remember a discussion years ago about the Navy pilot who sold a book of many pics he took during his career. He was somewhat of an amatuer photographer and this was post Top Gun. Apparently he made some coin and many in the community jumped him for making that money. I find nothing wrong with someone writing a book and selling it, especially when something crazy happens.

Purely guessing, but was it this one?:

Favorite of mine when I was growing up, great motivation, awesome photos for the time and equipment available....still have my copy somewhere, probably back home at my folks house or something.

That's the one. He had a cameo in Top Gun too :) Can you believe it used to be part of our ethics training? I guess somebody had a problem with him making money on the Navy while still in the Navy. Somebody will always biatch and cry.

Probably not. Writing a book and a speaking schedule plus trying to have time at home? I doubt he spends much time surfing the boards. I could be wrong.

Unfortunately it seems to come with the territory. ??? But hey.. he's probably knocking down some big coins, meeting some interesting people, going interesting places. I don't feel too badly for him. Plus, while it may be vexing, I would also think he can stand the heat.

Chesney's nose is too high in the air to ever read these boards.
Any criticism people have directed towards Chesney is due to his self promoting money grabbing behavior.
I can't think of another commercial pilot who was engaged in a high profile crash/landing/incident who negotiated "exclusive interview rights" for his first public comment on the incident. And then we find out he cut a book deal with a publishing house that has ties to the TV network awarded the "exclusive interview rights".
What a hero??? Errrrrr......how about what an egomaniacal mercenary.
Mere mortals like Dave Cronin and Al Haynes simply met with all media and answered questions.
But not Che$ney....he's $pecial!! :rotfl:

So, part of the board is lamenting the fact that pilots don't get just compensation and another part is blasting Sully for not doing the Chuck Yeager, "Aw.. it was nuthin'" routine? Damned if you do. Damned if you don't.

For the most part, he has presented reasoned, well thought out answers to questions posed to him. He has tossed in a few quotes about the lack of compensation and how recent years has found contract after contract gutted.

I hope the guy makes millions. He does not appear to have any skeletons in his closet. He has worked and earned accolades at the Academy, in the Air Force and I knew him at USAir and he was one of the good guys.

Maybe if he grovelled a bit... "Oh, I am not worthy" it would placate those who have never been faced with a once-in-a-lifetime event, much less faced such and acquitted themselves admirably.

Snoopy, why do you have such a hard-on for Sully? Do you know him personally?

What would be your property (school, property, whatever) tax on say a $400K house in Houston?
I believe total taxes are under 3%, at least according to houses I've been looking at on HAR.
I guess it also depends on which county you decide to move to as well. There is like 6 counties that Houston encompasses. Well, greater Houston anyway.

Do you know him personally? If not, you're reaching for something. Your post reaks of jealousy or someone who is severly insecure. Otherwise, why knock him without knowing the facts. The guy was a fighter pilot, has what seemingly was a successful career as an airline pilot and then set an airliner down in the water without loss of life. It is what it is. have you done better? To mock the dude is lame at best.

Amen brother.

*sigh*

Take a deep breath. Anger kills.

Making 125K a year must be so difficult to live off of. LOL. Those guys deserve every penny of that tho. Not saying they dont... but compared to my 40K a year, 3.8 % goes to city wage tax, 30% to other taxes, 5% to 401k, and cpl hundred a month for health benefits, and 115 a month for transit... I don't think he has any real money problems.

People live to their means. Sully used to make over $200k, and now me makes $125k. How well do you think you would cope if you suddenly lost $75k per year and all of your retirement along with it? You would have a valid argument if his pay hadn't been cut severely, but that's just not the case.

Doug - I am incapable of really growing a respectable 'stache. Does this mean that my 121 dreams are for naught?

I've got the same problem, and I made it! Hell, I'm even an ALPA rep without the ALPA 'stache! :)

The man's name is spelled C-H-E-S-L-E-Y
Spelling it incorrectly over and over shows not only ignorance but disrespect.

Just backs up my post I made earlier. This industry is infested with people who can't take themselves let alone their careers seriously. When will they grow up?
