(Stupid) E-Jet questions

Autothrust Blue

”…trusting ze process…”
No, no, I know what "AUTO" means...thanks!

This is more "stupid airline pilot stuff" like:
(1) Our training department says polarized sunglasses are a no-go in this airplane (washing out the LCDs—seems plausible). Is this true? If so, shopping I go.
(2) What sort of headset do you guys wear? I presume it's quiet enough up front that above 180, you won't need it, but I might get something more jet-appropriate than my Zulus, or do the UFlyMike/QC combination which kills two birds with a single, somewhat expensive, stone.
(3) I haven't had the opportunity to ride up front on one of these airplanes just yet. Is there space to stash a laptop/tablet/headset bag (like a Timbuktu messenger bag) up front, along with (or atop) our Airside kits?

Thanks.

To me it's always noisy. I use zulus. They do the trick. Every polarized pair I've tried made all the screens go black. Should be plenty of room for your other junk.

No clue on 1.
2. Telex 750 works just fine for me. Some guys have the UFly but I have noticed they produce alot of feedback.
3. That is my favorite thing about the airplane and response when JSers ask what my favorite thing about the airplane is.
Them " You like the Autothrottles huh"
Me " Nope, see the Black thing behind me? (them looking confused) Thats my bag, it ALL fits"
Granted we have the cubby hole on the Delta planes, not sure if you guys got that option but the short answer is yes there is plenty of room.

I use the Telex 850s and they work just fine, nice and lightweight. Lots of guys use those, the QC15s, A20s. And you should have a ton of space for a bag up there including your suitcase and a food bag if you so choose. I don't think polarized sunglasses work, mine didn't at least.

1) True. You don't want to wear polarized sunglasses in any "glass cockpit", as you won't be able to see/read the screens properly.

2) I used the Telex 850. I always wore it. No one really took their headsets off above 180, unless it was a pretty long flight and you were up in the high 30's where it was quieter.

3) Plenty of room for rollaboard, flight case, computer bag, lunch bag, etc.

That's actually not true. It varies a whole lot. The CRJ was fine, with the exception of the standby radio tuning unit. Jumpseating in the airbus I never had a problem with seeing anything. In my current ride, the screens are fine but you can't see out the windows.

It is not true in the brasilia either (shut up, it's glass too! Sort of).

Ok. I guess it's just an issue with LCD screens. And then, maybe it depends on the manufacturer of the LCD, as different LCD screens are polarized at different angles.

All of this is on the 190, so, your milage may vary...

1) I wear Oakley sunglasses with the HDPolarized lenses. No issues at all with any of the screens or the windows. Didn't have any issues from the Jumpseat of the CRJ today either.

2) I usually wear the company provided ANR headset, but I've also used my Telex 850. Both are good and the airplane is quiet enough to go without a headset, but is does have a whistle than can get annoying after a couple of hours. It's not as bad as the CRJ, but it is noticeable.

3) We have a cubby hole behind the right seat that easily fits a 22" bag. I also have room between my seat and my bag to put a soft sided briefcase style laptop bag.

I second the Telex 850 comment. That airplane does long enough legs a bigger headset may start to bother you. I think it may be a bit loud for no headset in cruise but the 850 has ship-powered ANR and it lightweight. I used it for several years in the E jet. Not sure about your company culture either. Some airlines I've worked for people always take off headsets in cruise and others never do.

All your other questions, what they said.

The only thing that drove me nuts is guys who wear the ship set David Clamps. They're uncomfortable, so they'd want to go topless.
I have an X11 which is super comfy even after a million hour day. It gets noisy above .76ish. Slower, it's pretty quiet, but it's no Airbus or Boeing.

You'll figure it out pretty quick. Have fun with her.

I fly the 190. I wear non polarized ray bans like all the hipsters in Brooklyn. I use the company provided headsets that have ANR(sanheiser something). The telex 850 also works well. I only go topless in the high 30's, and on long legs. It's a bit loud in the low 30's.

In cockpit videos on youtube and the like, is the polarized windows in the cockpit the reason why the windows look whited out. Unless the camera focuses on the windows, to be able to see out the other side?

No. That has more to do with the fact that most phone cameras and gopros have trouble white balancing quickly. So they balance for the shaded cockpit and the super bright lighted windows get blanked out. Or, if it focuses out the window, the interior of the cockpit is too dark to see anything.

The LCD/Polarization issue is relative to the wearer, the angles and the glasses. I have had some LCD panels blank completely with some glasses and others not, while wearing the same pair.

It just depends on your particular combination and angles.

Eh, I've been using polarized glasses for years....in several different 'glass' systems. Works fine for me. However, it really just depends on the orientation of the panels.

Agreed. The E-jet however definitely won't work. Not sure what's different.
