Strangest ways to pass the time

Not my hobby, but somebody apparently does origami.

I worked at a place once where one of the aircraft interior cleaning fellas used to spend his time pleasuring himself while creepily ogling the cabin attendants. This was short lived and he was literally removed forcefully and deposited on the sidewalk and told in no uncertain terms to never return and charges were being filed. Never saw him again. Strange way to spend time indeed.
 
I’ve got a couple of options. I’d never read non company material in flight, but if I did I’d read a book. Currently trying to get through the first book of the Malazan Book of the Fallen series. This is like my fourth attempt maybe this time.

People have mentioned you can get ebooks from the library, but Amazon also has this thing called kindle unlimited. It is subscription based but the cost is negligible. What’s fun about it, is it’s predominantly self published stuff, and there is a lot of junk on it, but there also some absolute bangers. It’s been an entertaining hobby in of itself reading through some of the junk to find the treasure.

I’ve also been doing some solo role playing and journaling games.

If neither one of those hit the spot I’ve been playing this sci fi 4x game recently at home. Well I say 4x game, but the program itself is really a spaceship design and logistics/organization simulation with 4x elements to let you use your ship designs and TO&Es. So I’ll make planning notes, designs, and general organizational plans for when I’m home.
 
I flew with a guy who would take my crew meals. I thought it was an accident until it happened the second time some months later. “Oh, I thought they knew I was ready to eat”.
 
Not exactly the same but in my free time I’ve started playing Cities: Skylines and it’s totally changed my perception of infrastructure. Now when Im in the air, Im just nerding out over beautiful interchanges and arterial road layouts that I want to go check out on the ground.

Apple Maps has become my muse…

When I'm flying I'm always either studying the FOM or reading the latest bulletins. But when I'm "Jumpseating" i catch up on downloaded Youtube Videos or Podcasts. I try to read but that puts me to sleep which isn't ideal in the "jumpseat".

Care to share the name of said game? I’ve been spending way too much time killing/poisoning/asphyxiating/starving my dupes on Oxygen Not Included these days…

Sure. But some backstory/explanation. The name is Aurora4x. It’s is not pretty, user friendly, or really a game in the classic sense. There is no GUI to speak of… it’s all pretty much run as a SQL database.

It’s the love child of a dude that was a super fan of an old table top wargame called Starfire that had a campaign mode that was incredibly technical and record keeping heavy. Initially the plan was to design companion software for that. It then morphed into his own project.

The first step, almost a rite of passage is figuring out how to install the damn thing. The forums where you can get it are down currently… a state that happens a few times a year. I think the files are available on the discord.

If you’re willing to deal with all that, there is absolutely nothing at its level.

Learning music production and piano. Splitting time between tutorials and courses on Udemy and LinkedIn and screwing around with GarageBand and Ableton on an Arturia MIDI controller I bring with me.

Incidentally, if anybody has any advice on that end - or where I can find a travel 45 key so I can do some more serious practice on layovers - let me know. It’s just self taught stuff for me, but I’m getting to where I need to find some instructor guidance.
