Strangest ways to pass the time

I'll preface this by reminding people not to post incriminating or anything unauthorized that would be clear violations of company policy. What are some of the things you've observed your coworkers doing to pass the time while at work? For example, we've all heard the urban legend of someone clipping their toenails at a time and a place that they shouldn't be. Another example, one that I've witnessed, was someone that would lick Dorito chips, but not eat the chip and discard it in the trash because they liked the nacho cheese taste. At a different job I had a brillant coworker that would write fiction novels with pen and legal pads then transcribe their work to the computer after shift at the the house. Personally, I've always tried to fill the gaps with some sort of learning exercise or just squander away time here on JC.

C'mon, there has to be some interesting stories out there about what people did to pass the time as a piston/ turboprop freight dog during the sort, or CFI in between lessons, and like me finding ways to lollygag while "watching paint dry" during maintenance events.
I read books

My public library lets you download books to your tablet, Even checkout movies to your tablet at no cost.

Better than renting movies off Amazon/google or Apple.

Otherwise, on longer overnights I make maps of video game worlds. Which I would consider totally weird and nerdy worthy of a “kick me” post it slap on the back….

What do you do with those maps? Personal consumption or distribute them within the fan base of that game?

An old co-worker of mine is a hardcore geocacher, so they’d go hunting on overnights.

a little day-trading project
This is something I have some interest in exploring as a hobby, but I haven’t really taken seriously.

Do you have any recommendations for technology or bulk data services for a casual? (i.e. “just let me pull all the data from an API into Python and I’ll do my own ciphering”)

I will DM you some details, but what you are mentioning here is way above and beyond what we are doing.

Any of you flown with Ham radio people? I’ve talked to a few guys who use the HF radio to do ham radio stuff in cruise. One guy was flying over the Netherlands and I had a short chat with him from the Midwest, a DAL guy flying between ATL and SEA, a dude over CO who flies for Atlas (I think), and a few others.

A captain at my former regional traveled with a fiddle and a foldable scooter. Would scoot into town to play the fiddle on sidewalks. Super nice guy, only thing that made it odd to me is we usually stayed in bad areas in small towns.
