Stopping the Slide

Not much to think about.

I think he's infering that it wasn't really anyones flying but mainline...and 'stealing' regional feed isn't really well, stealing.

If I was a PSA FO and I wanted to stay in the airlines, I'd probably jump to CHQ right now to get some people below me.

Mesa, Skywest, and Republic will become the players IMO in the next few years, although I forsee mesa's feed getting reduced if they can't perform (#'s) and skywest and republic getting some of mesa's former routes. I think you'll probably see one of them pick up the midwest feed too. Although Midwest does like smaller operators (look at skyway).

When does XJT lose additional airframes? I know that 25% was removed starting next year (?) but can't CAL reduce their fleet again sometime down the road?

More like "Canadian government-backed Canadair desperately grasps for a market"! ;)

apparently the CRJ was orginally designed as a replacement for Fedex's DA20's. Fedex pulled out and went to 72's, and bombardier (sp?) frantically marketed it as a pax plane.

Being based in SDF...hmm makes me wonder. I'd wonder if they can fly freight at night, people in the day? What does UPS's scope clause say about feeder aircraft?

I heard a rumor about pinnacle approaching the pilot group about flying freight at night in their rj's and the union turned it down. Not sure how true that was though. It was on flightinfo...

"What does UPS's scope clause say about feeder aircraft"

It allows UPS to use feeder aircraft as necessary. Anything that isn't efficient for a 727 can be put on a feeder.

You would have to bulk load it, first of all. You know long that takes? Second of all, there is nowhere a CRJ could go efficiently that would replace a UPS jet. Stuff that isn't efficient for UPS jets out of SDF is being flown in an Shortes, Short's, in a Short's.

By the way, an RJ PF isn't a passenger plane, so there is no pax during the day, freight at night, conversion.

I'm sure there are niches where an RJ PF makes sense but don't see it in the UPS system. Our loads are too high for it to makes sense.

It's a good thing pilots these days have no backbone. Geez. It's not like our past aviators ever were furloughed and had to leave the industry for years at a time to hold the line. Nah. We gotta put food on the table flying planes. We can't do any other job. Cave, cave, cave.

I'd gladly be furloughed for 2-4 years and find another job in the mean time to possibly come back and have the benefits/pay/work rules we once had.

IMO the true heros are the ones who don't "Cave Cave Cave" to peer pressure. You heard it hear folks absolutely no where in ALPAs manual does it say anyone has to take the fall so someone else can live it up at your expense. Remember this advice never let a union tell you to run your life. If you want to do what they want to do more power to you. If you disagree with them be not afraid to speak up and ask em the tough questions.

Just wait until he starts talking about how good it is Mesaba's guys are getting shafted, yadda yadda yadda......

Wheels, I haven't heard anything about the freight at night/pax in the day thing. I doubt we could keep the birds in the air with that many cycles on them. MX would be hell. :)

This rumor just will not die. The Canadair Challenger was designed as a business jet in 1978. The Bombardier CRJ wasn't built until 1987. FedEx was interested in using the Challenger (corp jet) as a freighter but it never panned out. Two different stories, two different companies, two different decades and two different planes.

Odds are AWAC won't get them. They already told them no -900s if there wasn't a pay raise coming with them. My money's on Mesa.....

I haven't read the rest of the thread, but we won't get it. We're barely clinging to UAX and DAL as is. Parker knows better.

Look for GJ flying 900s soon.

Probably, I hear the JFK Dash 8 thing isn't working all that nifty.

Heard on the 'other' board that they might be running the Mighty Beech from JFK to BDL and PVD in Delta Colors.

The rumor is that the Dashes that they got from the Canadian leasing company don't have GPWS installed. Oops.

Hmmmm if I just got off a long LGW-JFK.ZRH-JFK,etc. flight there'd be no way that I'd want to be on a Dash-8 or a B1900 after that long flight. Truthfully I wouldn't much enjoy being on an RJ either.

You ever see how many Dash8s KLM uses on their City Hopper service out of AMS?

Me to.

I do upgrade the good looking girls to the 'ultra' first class section of the Beech 1900. It's row 1A and 1C. They get a lot of extra legroom, but what makes it ultra is that they can look at me for the entire flight. :D

They actually use the Fokker 50 which looks like the mighty Dash, but I THINK it holds a lot more. They also have some Fokker 70 and 100 seat jets.

The Beech is an awesome plane to fly, but I have A LOT of pity on our passengers that have to fly on it!

I'm not aware of the routes these planes fly from JFK. Of course I'm sure that there not long routes. Maybe smaller cities that can't get 737 service or maybe wouldn't be profitable. Dunno.

But as Seggy said. He pitties the pax he flies. I'm in agreement.

But if you want to be more technical I have never flown internationally. But I'd imagine flying ZRH-JFK and living in PHX would suck too. Cause you'd be tired mentally ready to get home and just enjoy being home. But you have to wait to board (if your lucky you don't have to wait 2-3 hours) another plane, taxi etc.

And if XXX airline didn't have a direct flight from JFK and I had to go through ATL,CVG before getting home I'd be done!!!
