STOP THE NOISE!

I drove passed a huge billboard on my way into New Smyrna Beach that pictured a little kid, with a distressed look on his face, covering his ears, with a small plane flying over him. The billboard was advertising www.stopthenoise.org, and it really pissed me off. All the airports in the Central Florida area have been around longer than Moses, and the solution is simple. If you don't like airplane noise, DON'T MOVE IN OR BUILD A HOUSE NEXT TO AN AIRPORT!

"If the constant noise of low flying stunt planes has driven you indoors, interfered with your conversing on your deck or patio, or simply deprived you of the use of your property as you would like to use it, you are not alone."

Last time I checked, the sound of my AC unit flushes out the sound of Twin Otters and Skyvans climbing over my house all day. So therefore, under this logic, AC units should be banned too.

Call me crazy, but I think airplanes are meant to be loud. Hush kits should be forbidden, and when planes fly over my house, I want my paintings on the wall to hold on for dear life. I'd like to organize a parade of the loudest airplanes to buzz their headquarters.

Retired wealthy people will win the battle, as they always do, because they actually know how to arouse public outrage about aircraft noise...

Coming to a town near you... wait for it. I promise: Arrogant rhetoric and (fecal matter dispensed from bulls) will not yield the results you hope for. Everybody loves to be a victim and offended by aircraft noise.

I've been fighting this battle in the AZ area for over a decade and a half.

Yes, airports have been here longer than most residents and their homes.
Yes, if one doesn't want to hear airplane noise, then don't move next to an airport.
No, you shouldn't be able to move next to an airport and then complain about the noise there.

And you know what I learned in all the years of fighting this issue: No one cares about the above.

No one cares about what's right. All people see GA as, especially in this day and age of the economy, is a buncf of rich guys and gals who have airplanes that do nothing with their day except make noise and ruin the environment by creating global warming/climate change/climate disruption (whatever the hell the latest iteration of it is).

While you and I know that isn't the truth, the general public just doesn't care about the truth. They don't want to be faced with their own stupidity or their own failure to do their homework before moving in next to an airport. And, they're the ones with the money/votes/sway with the local city councils that help usher in draconian noise abatement procedures and noise hotlines at airports.

I fought this battle with the people against KSDL, and have only figured out that it's one of the biggest one-sided and losing battles out there. Mainly because nobody cares, about any number of issues involved.

And thats too bad.
