This does bring up the point that pilots can proactively try to minimize their noise footprint. There's a certain Bo pilot who will always slam the prop into high RPM 5 miles out and overfly the entire city at pattern altitude making a bunch of unnecessary noise. I actually LIKE airplane noise, and it aggravates me because I see the people looking up with the same look of disgust I use when a bunch of pirates ride by with straight pipes.For what it's worth, the vast majority of the noise from small aircraft comes from the prop(s).
