STARs and speed/altitude restrictions in a GA plane

I would highly recommend getting training in your own airplane at least once yearly, not maintaining proficiency in your airplane is something that could get you killed. How often do you go out and practice maneuvers or slowflight or stalls in your airplane?

I fly about 25 hours a month. More than I was at the airlines. My proficiency is fine, thanks.

I... Don't think you'll get a dc-3 type without flying it VFR.

You might get laughed at when you suggest it though.
As far as the question you asked, I think you can put "no SIDS/STARS" in the remarks, can you not?

Also I think you might be using fltplan.com wrong somehow. I've never had it not suggest a route that worked. I always used the ATC cleared routes rather than the recently filed ones.

That wasn't really the question. The question was how ATC would prefer that it be filed.

Take a look yourself. Bet you don't find any suggested routes that don't include the STAR. You've got to remember that light GA traffic flying into LAS is almost nonexistent, so all of the ATC cleared routes are for jets and turboprops flying up in the flight levels.

I'd just file to the airport, you'll get a visual approach and they're going to mistreat you either way because you're trying to fly one of those weird flivvers into big bad LAS... I can't stand the controllers there [emoji14]

Just file direct if you're set on going IFR and would like direct if they're able. If we see a filed route, we assume you want to fly it. File direct and we usually do what we can to help you out more. Adding No Sids/Stars would be a pretty decent option to put in the remarks as well.

If you get VFR flight following on any flight instead of IFR, I promise your odds of getting hit by someone else don't go up at all. We let you get closer to other airplanes, but believe me you are still being protected for.

@ATN_Pilot I fly a 70 year old 85 hp airplane with no transponder at an airport that's completely surrounded by a MOA above 1500 ft AGL. In addition to the fighters that occasionally pass through, there are no-radio gliders operating in the immediate area as well. I don't have anything constructive to add I just wanted to see if I could make your head explode. :)

Are you telling me that you will literally pick up an IFR clearance to fly to an airport even if it's only ten miles away? Because that is just ludicrous.

Why would I being flying to an airport only 10 miles away? Heard of a car?

Pretty close. :)
