Anyone at Spirit can confirm they are looking at or actually moving headquaters to Orlando. I heard through a third source.
I think that rumor died when their CEO retired this year. He was the Air Tran CEO and I believe he lived in Orlando. From what I understand the new CEO wants to stay in S. Florida. A friend who works there told me the rumor is now they will probably move closer to FLL.
This is pretty accurate. But nothing is set in stone yet as the actual move is still several years away. They do have a back up OCC in MCO....and DTW.
Spirit was founded in DTW plus if you have a hurricane that's causing an evacuation you might want to get more than a couple hundred miles away.Random, but what’s the logic behind the DTW backup OCC? MCO I get, but it would take hours just to get staff from Florida to DTW. Is this in case a hurricane wipes out all of Florida?

They used it in 2017 when Irma and Harvey came through.Spirit was founded in DTW plus if you have a hurricane that's causing an evacuation you might want to get more than a couple hundred miles away.
But how do you maintain operational control of your flights during an evacuation big (hurricane) or small (tornado, fire alarm)
Very simple with a hurricane since you see it coming days ahead so you have plenty of time to set up people at your backup site we’ll ahead of time. lol, it would be much harder if hurricanes dropped on top of south Florida out of nowhereBut how do you maintain operational control of your flights during an evacuation big (hurricane) or small (tornado, fire alarm)

By the way, every airline has to maintain a backup control center, and from time to time you have to demonstrate to the FAA and your insurance company that you have a plan in place on switching your operation to the backup facility and that you are able to execute it....But how do you maintain operational control of your flights during an evacuation big (hurricane) or small (tornado, fire alarm)
Fire alarm is going off, is your life in danger? LOLFor a hurricane you fly a group up a day or 2 before evacuating. For a tornado you have a sacrificial lamb and not let any more aircraft take off. For a fire you stay at your desk unless your life is in danger (have had an FAA guy say this)
So then why when the fire alarms go off at centers do they evac and go ATC ZERO? Btw those alarms were caused by contractors getting dust in fire detectors during construction. For a hurricane you fly a group up a day or 2 before evacuating. According to a former coworker that dispatches there now, they are supposed to make an announcement this month regarding a new HDQ and/or OCC location.
They are moving into the old SWA OCC I can confirm that
