ATN, if MEC officers are not consulting with and taking orders from the LEC whilst directing the NC apart from direction from the LEC reps, is that cause for recall?
You see, this right here is the entire problem. You (and apparently the people who orchestrated the recall) have a fundamental misunderstanding about how the ALPA structure is supposed to work.
Status Reps are not supposed to come into town every few months and start dictating orders to committees and MEC Officers. That structure doesn't work, and it fails wherever it is tried. Committees work for the MEC Officers, the Chairman specifically unless he delegates authority for oversight among the officers (as most usually do). The NC Chairman doesn't report to the Status Reps. He reports to the MEC Chairman. This is true even with MECs that have elections of committee chairs. The Status Reps elect experienced and knowledgeable officers who are capable of directing the NC Chairman (and other committee chairmen). After that, the role of the Status Reps is to provide
broad oversight, not specific direction. Status Reps are typically
far less experienced than the MEC Officers and the NC members. When Status Reps try to micromanage, they invariably screw everything up, because they don't have a clue what they're doing and they aren't in the trenches every single day seeing how things are working and getting the constant advice from the experts (attorneys, financial analysts, benefits specialists, etc.).
This reeks of ego. A few angry reps were mad that their incompetent micromanagement wasn't followed, so they decided to demonstrate their power in the most irresponsible way imaginable.
