Unfortunately, if this is some new, targeted thing, there’s not much that can be done about it. Short of closing any plane spotter viewing areas; nearly all airports have taxiways and runways that are easily within the range of small arms from the airport’s perimeter fence. And those airport perimeter fences cannot easily or reasonably be extended outwards for a host of reasons. Hopefully this isn’t some new form of thing to do or Tik Tok challenge, graduating up from the use of lasers against aircraft.

It’s Concerning to say the least. I was just at that airport on that airline not but a few days ago. I thought I gave that part of aviation up once I got out.

Around Love (and Midway and Burbank and...) I don't have a clue how you'd shut that area down. Short of MCI or DFW I don't think it is possible anywhere in the US really.

The way that this should be handled is the way it should always be handled: spend the time and the resources to find whomever did it and make a Big Deal(tm) out of sending them to prison for an extended time.

But they have limited resources to investigate and prosecute. Don't you remember "Defund the police!"?

And unfortunately, difficult to find the culprits if it’s some common round and it’s not even known where it was fired from or when. Hopefully this isn’t some kind of new “challenge” was just a one-off here. Though I’m surprised this hasn’t happened long ago.

Of course they are going to try. I’m simply saying for those that think is merely a simple matter of just finding the culprits. Well, that’s about as easy as being able to physically prevent this from occurring. Similar to laser events. Difficult to catch, have to be right place at right time. But even with the book being thrown at them, these still happen regularly. So the deterrence part doesn’t seem to make a difference. But, we do what we can do and catch the ones we can.

I would think it is just a stray shot fired for a legit reason - like a drug deal gone bad, carjacking, or a cop who got nervous because a brown person wasn't complying fast enough - and not a "challenge". If it was a challenge type thing that'd be a whole lot of bad.

Will depend how many more of these start being seen or discovered I hope too that it’s some one-off event.
