Spirit hit by gunfire in PAP

Those dudes are on the wait list but still invited to the party, and they get in before the guys who “almost joined the Marines” or whatever.

My buddy in the Clearwater reserve unit flying Jets asked one of his guys who does Spirit as his day job, “so is this how you intend to get a CAB, because I’ll write it as a witness for you.” There’s a lot of Army RTAP guys running at spirit right now and more power to them. Nobody wants to get shot at but at least have humor about it, that’s the way we’ve always dealt with this.

I was going to “like” that post, but without understanding the lingo/slang/abbreviations I’m more inclined to just be quietly impressed…I guess.
The party is the glut of discounts available to veterans on Veterans Day.

CAB is combat action badge. It’s awarded to Army soldiers who have been in actual combat situations.

I assume RTAP is rotary to Airline Program.

Did you even read what I posted? Your friends probably stayed at an East coast resort. Are you really that obtuse to think the whole country is like that?

I’m par of a cruise group on Facebook and, at the height of the civil unrest, there were people asking if Labadee would be open because it’s so pleasant and their kids have been looking forward to it all year.

A long as there is an 20x20’ island with cocktails in the middle of a field of hot lava and death, Americans will want to vacation there if the price is right, without regard to anything else.

Roatan Honduras has entered the chat… absolutely amazing scuba diving.

When anybody ever says we should just fold the Marine Corps into the Navy and Army it is important to remind them that so long as people vacation and go to medical schools in places they shouldn’t there will always be a need for a Marine Corps.

Whatever happened to the Super Corsair? I was infatuated with it after memorizing my grandpa's copy of "September Champions" and reading about Cook Clelands Goodyear 4360 Corsairs. I figured the Super Corsair was the closest thing I'd ever get to those until Bob Odegard restored the two 4360 racers.
It crashed at the inaugural Phoenix Air Races and I was there to witness that as well. They had an engine failure that led to a fire, they had an on-board extinguishing system that seemed to quell the fire for a few moments but the fire came back. I was standing on top of our trailer watching while this was going on you could've heard a pin drop other than a few folks shouting at the pilot to get out. The pilot, Kevin Eldridge, must've heard them because he did exactly that, unfortunately he was hit by the tail on the way out and I think it broke his back but he survived and recovered. The airplane continued down and crashed almost vertically into the GM proving grounds next door. The wreckage is still at Planes Of Fame (where it was built) in Chino. Here's a short video...

Was there for that and watched that happen too.

The Phoenix 500 lasted what, one more year or so?

I think they only had the two races, there were a lot of folks that never got paid. We won both in '94 and '95 and I don't know if Lyle ever got his prize money. Our team literally ran on a shoestring and sometimes struggled to have enough money to buy new screws. Big time air racing was expensive and not getting paid would make Lyle mad, he was a Golden Gloves champion boxer and you did not want to get on his bad side. I might've seen a couple of things that never got reported in the "news".
