Spirit Furloughing

The judge only oversees the trial and makes the ruling he thinks is best. It takes the DOJ to bring the suit in the first place. Biden’s mantra was anti-merger, “pro” consumer. Don’t deny that.

This should never have been sued to stop.
actually it's jetblue's fault for wanting to merge in the first place

how far you wanna kick this can?

JetBlue has wanted to merge for years. They tried VX and were outbid. They didn’t want the same next time.

The GOVERNMENT allowed the big 4 to happen. AA/TWA/AWA/US, CO/UA, NW/DL, and SW/AII.

Those 4 now control 85% of the country’s market. The remaining carriers do not have the economy of scale to compete long term with the big 4. They will sort her be forever to merge or die off. There is no future with a standalone Spirit, JetBlue, Frontier, and Allegiant.

Don’t bring facts into this.
It was a Reagan appointed judge

I did lament losing the merger opportunity - like many of my Cow Orkers - however, the clear-eyed light of day that hindsight brings has also made me think that we might've dodged a bullet. The price for NK was way too high with the debt obligations, and that might have sunk us both.

I keep hearing noises about hiring in '25, so I do hope we give the furloughed NK guys a shot.

I remember thinking there was no way I’d pay $4ish billion for the place.

All this winning from the Biden administration DOJ. They sure protected the consumers best interest!
How are you so clueless about the industry you work in? Spirits own CEO said the merger would be struck down, yet the board went ahead anyways. Also what does Biden have to do about PW engines? You do realize JB would be declining bankruptcy if this merger went through…

Yes, the board went ahead. Got a link/article for the CEO comments, dated at the time Frontier and jetBlue were bidding?

That's one issue that's plagued all airlines with PW engines on the 320 family. Not the final nail in the coffin.

Maybe. You can't predict that now since it never happened.

"Ted Christie provided more details on why Spirit’s board rebuffed a $3.6 billion buyout offer from JetBlue in favor of a lower bid from Frontier.

Christie said “you don’t need to be an antitrust attorney” to see that federal regulators are unlikely to let JetBlue buy his airline while they are suing to break up JetBlue’s Northeast partnership with American Airlines on anti-competitiveness grounds."
