Spirit Airlines Strike Update

I believe the MEC canned C.T.

Yeah, and I'm still not sure how I feel about that. I'm just waiting to see if the reserve guys get run over in TA2 as badly as we did in TA1.

I still consider it a committee since SE and AvV are gonna be there, too.

So, the company is announcing to the press that it has partnered with other airlines to keep flying:

But, if you look at the schedule, they are cancelling lots of flights.

And today the union sent this out:

Fellow Pilots:

For the past two days, your negotiating team and your MEC have been in Washington, D.C., negotiating with the company in an effort to get us a fair contract—and avoid a strike. Although the chasm between the two sides has narrowed, there has been no TAs. Currently, we are concentrating on Section 25 (Scheduling) and Section 27 (Health Insurance). We will let you know more as soon as we can.

Today, the company informed us that they are seeking to outsource our flying. At the same time, it appears that Spirit has cancelled numerous flights around and after the Strike Deadline. We’ve been in touch with several potential contract operators, and all have denied contracting any lift past the deadline. In fact, Vision Airlines told us they were approached by Spirit and Vision refused to pick up any flying (this was confirmed by several of their pilots—22 of their 24 737 pilots are former or furloughed ALPA pilots). Your MEC and SPC have reached out to nearly all domestic unionized carriers to confirm that they are supporting our struck work policy. According to our research and ALPA industry experts, assuming Spirit could find a company that would step in to rescue it, there simply isn’t the lift physically available to make any sort of impact.

This seems to be more Spirit spin in an attempt to break our resolve and force us to take a contract that does not recognize our contributions—which we simply won’t do.

Fly safe. Fly the contract.

Your MEC

And I love the articles that quoted Spirit management as saying they offered double digit raises and the union rejected them! Double digit raises to management while it was a double digit concession from the pilots!

Thanks for all the support!

Well things are looking like the strike will happen. First the company sends out W.A.R.N. notices saying it's shutting down. Then they send out press releases a few days ago saying they are flying and contracting with other carriers. Then today they send out releases that they are cancelling flights.

Today the company showed up at negotiations and then got up and left.

So, I fly tomorrow and will be left in FLL. I'll work the strike center and then try to find my way home. Then I have to get to ACY to participate in any job actions and get my vehicle.

But life is good. We're resolved. If the definition of seniority changes, everyone is in for a bumpy ride.

It was nice to get communications again from ALPA addressing me as Captain. King for a week! LOL.

Since I'm Captain, I get to say who is flying. I'm going to fly the trip tomorrow since it may be my last.

Peace out.

. It will come to the last hour. Standard stuff. If not, Spirit will not make it past the weekend without signing something. Most charters ops have said no to the scab flying, one confirmed place that might only has 3 airplanes.

For those of you with vehicles stuck in ACY, I can give a ride from PHL or EWR to ACY depending on my schedules... shoot me a PM. I've got room for 3/maybe/4 at a time? I Will likely be around sunday.. and then the middle of the week.

If you're trying to get back home on a 9E flight, you'll get a ride. If you don't, find out who the CA is so I can have a few not so kind words with them......

Looks like this is going to happen, folks. I'd be utterly shocked if a deal is reached before midnight. This will be the first ALPA strike in nine years. Please have the Spirit pilots in your prayers, and if you can help in any way, please do. I'll be in FLL tonight for the big countdown. Hopefully I'll see some of you there.

P.S. The turnout in DTW yesterday was excellent. Good to see jtrain back in a uniform. ;)

Good luck to everyone!!!! All of you are in my thoughts and prayers. Hold tight and dont back down for what you deserve and believe in!

I wish the Spirit guys and gals the best... They are truly the "tip of the spear" for many other carriers and an entire contract cycle where many may actually get to use the RLA to make positive gains instead of the last 9 years of just moving the same money around with no increases.

Stand Strong :pirate:

Good luck guys!

I'm heading through DTW tomorrow, l bet the North Terminal is going to look like CMH when the 'Bus closed shop... 3rd world terminal with refugees and everything. Give 'em hell pilots! You deserve much better!
