Southwest Hiring

To flygirl -

Are you in at a 135 or a regional 121? I only ask because I have this ingrained knowledge of WN standards being "Why aren't you here for five years already, go away," or thereabouts. I was only certified last year, and just got in at my dinky little 135 op as a flight follower not four months ago (but honestly it feels like crew scheduling with every passing day...). Yes I will continue to apply, yes I will continue to receive the TBNTs, but hey - you at least got to see the opening come and go! I think I arrived in time for September!

I'm assuming it may be a while, internal posting was open till Friday. I'm sure they will have to process those before looking though the external applicants.

I'm bummed out. I didn't apply right away, and missed out. I didn't think it would close out in two days (tried to apply on Wednesday, posted the announcement on Monday). Ahh well, I too have no real world experience.

Sorry you missed it :(

Do you "like" ADF on Facebook? I post the job as soon as it comes out. I even blasted an Email to all ADF Members.

Seems a little strange not to hear anything back from SWA yet as far as an email
for testing dates/times. I believe its been 2 weeks since the internal application closed
and 2 1/2 weeks since the external closed. Anyone else know anything different ?

Not strange at all. Class is in September and there are a lot of applications to sift through, not to mention HR is getting buried in hiring requisitions from everywhere in the company. Not unusual for a month to pass before there is any motion on the testing dates.

I haven't received an offer yet to work as a dispatcher or flight follower. I've interviewed so far with a small privately owned company here in Oregon and recently I made it to the last round with Delta Air Lines. I really thought I'd get the job with Delta, but I just found out yesterday I didn't make the cut. It gives me confidence though, because I at least made it that far with a Major with no real world experience. I've since started sending out applications to all open jobs that are posted. I just got my certificate in March this year.

Didnt the Delta application ask if you had alteast a year of experience dispatching for a 121 airline?

Wise word of advice, No matter how far you go in the interview process at a major with little to no experience, it is highly unlikely you would get an offer. With few exceptions of people already on the inside, I haven't personally seen anyone go beyond a lateral move without a year 121 experience. That said there are some getting in places with a less 121 experience than used to. By example when I first started sending out apps to the majors, they wanted a minimum of 3 years 121 before they would even look at your stuff. Even longer to be looked at as a contender. For those with a year or so experience chances of moving on now are a lot better than they used to be. Some of us are still toiling in a trench on one level or another waiting for the chance to make the career destination move.
