So it begins... the wonderful TSA

Just don't try to take a bin pin through the checkpoint. Might be a required piece of equipment for a ramper and totally legal to boot, but it still freaks them out. Had one in my backpack, and once a week I'd get the "Hey! What is this! What do you use this for!" interrogation. There are alternate ways to get to the ramp in MCO without going through TSA as well. I started using them....

Bin Pin???? is that a 737 part? Never heard of it.

Yeah I work in a small airport, so even if I was upstairs next to the checkpoint, it would be faster to go down to the counter, swipe, and walk out to the ramp and up the jetway to get to the gate than go through the TSA • show. The last time I went throuth the checkpoint at BGR was to go fly out last week.

If I have to take off my jacket, shoes, and belt when in uniform (none of which set off the metal detector), then your grandma can take off her hat.

Well hello, i just pointed out blatently that she doesnt wear a DAMN HAT! It's part of her religious beliefs, and it's called a SCARF!

Booooooo Hooooooooo Hooooooo So sorry for your troubles. DEAL W/ IT!

We all have to put up w/ the useless TSA nonsense.

My religion requires me to carry a gun inside my top hat. I cannot remove the hat for any reason other than God's will.

Well, I paid it once before I attend ATP.

Now, there is a local employer / recruiter who told me - "It would be a problem for our training department, if you do not have TSA clearance before training." :insane:.

Well, I guess it is part of paying my dues.

######## i'll deal with it!

She doesnt take off her scarf in public, end of story. Go tell a SIKH to take his headpiece off...yeah that goes over well. She's not breaking any rules.

You know instead of being such an #######, you could make something productive from it.

For religious beliefs, she can taken to a private room for extra security if it was so concerning. She will not take it off in public, end of story. They have to accomodate her. She will however take it off, in private area, with one of us present. So there you go..the lady was just being a bitch...

Erm...I think what Bigey is trying to get across here is that in Islam (according to some people), a womans hair can't be seen by a man other than her husband, only other women. So by taking it off in public, she would be exposing herself to a bunch of men standing around. This would be akin to stripping down naked and saying, "HEY! LOOK AT MY BOOBIES!" which most people would call fairly degrading to do to a person.

There's always the option for a private screening area with a female screener if need be.

:yeahthat:

Instead of whining about not taking it the hat/ scarf/ toupee/ wig off......request a private screening. Make it more of a hassle to the TSA. Instead of making a big scene, you could've just initiated the private screening process and END OF STORY.

Also, I don't doubt the TSA person was a b!tch. They are out of control w/ their power-trip attitudes.

However, let's not forget here......It was a bunch of Islamists that got this whole TSA ball rolling. And now, before you get your panties in a bunch, I'm not saying ALL Islamists are terrrorists but you need to understand, not all Americans care about Islamist practices or beliefs. We don't know your scarf isn't a HAT.

The way I see it, you have two choices DEAL W/ IT THE BEST YOU CAN or DON'T FLY. It's completely up to you. But if you think I'm going to learn about every religion or foreign custom just so your little feelings don't get hurt, YOU ARE OUT OF YOUR MIND!

For the record, I don't like the TSA nonsense either! They're a bunch of idiots and we are no safer today than we were 6 years ago.

Every time they stop you to do this, demand a private screening.

I won't. I want to make a scene (not by being a jac---- but by doing it out in the middle of the terminal) for everyone to see. Besides behind closed doors it's just your word against theirs ...

Yeah, it slides through a couple of holes as a safety catch for the cargo bins. I've only had to use it once or twice b/c the door wouldn't stay open. Curiously, it was always a 737-200......

On the old 737-200 they had a strap installed to hold the door open if it didnt latch properly. There was guy in MCO that had the door come down on his head. He was out of work for almost a year. It messed up several vertebrae.

Steve did you guys have a bin stretcher over at SWA? We had a few at Delta but the new guys couldnt ever seem to find them when we told them to go and get it.....not sure why

Yeah, we had the same problem. Always had to send them to Delta for the prop wash and the flight line, too.....

Sayy what? Private screening for what?!

There's no rule about taking off a scarf? She said that she beeped, that's why she had to take it off. The whole point wasn't about the scarf, if need being, we would of requested private screening, IN A ROOM. It's that she said she beeped that required her remove her "hat."

Now, yeah, not everyone knows the difference between a hat and a scarf..:sarcasm: But comon, she could of used some proper terms. If i dont know the word for what white people call canes (if i didnt know it was canes) i wouldnt say "hey can you move your stick."

Theres a proper way about going with business. If she was polite and politely asked to remove her head piece, i would of been cool with her to tell her private room please. But she was blatently rude, and changed her story saying she beeped, when no beeping occurred.

I dont know what the whole relevance of "islamists (by the way, it's islamic; if you want to address those who believe in Islam, they're muslims) got the whole ball rolling" has anything to do with this?

It's like saying, "hey just remember, it was white people who had slaves...i'm not saying it was your fault, but it was your kinda peoples fault.." kinda bs.

Lets keep relevance however. She didnt follow through very well. The TSA is a joke before the issue anyways.

I do have to say, i almost beat down on some old hag on my flight to Iran. While i was being secondary searched (who'm was actually really nice) some old hag came over and picked up a wand that was sitting on the table while i was sitting down and looks at my screener and starts wanding my head and said "make sure he doesnt have any rasor blades in his hair" and started joking. After giving her a piece of my mind, i asked the screener if he wanted to keep control of his work objects which he just shrugged and said "whatever."

1. I am not going to get into the specifics of the security proccess for Aircraft Mechanics at O'hare, but it is relatively a joke. However they also seem to realize that most of our tools are banned for ordinary passengers anyway.

2. Bigey, I am a white male Aircraft Mechanic for a very large regional airline and I am on the watch list(Even after passing a very thourough background investigation). It is a huge hassel for me to fly too. It is not discrimination towards your race or religion. Whining and argueing with people won't solve anything. If you feel you are being discriminated against, the ticket counter agent should have the number to the TSA to call and if that doesn't work contact your congressional rep. or senator.

I wouldnt so much call it discrimination, but rather a retard out of the bunch. By the way, no one ever gets anywhere with filing a complaint. Been there..done that...got the keychain and hat during that ordeal...

Is that what you're looking for, Mariano? :) :sarcasm:
