I understand a Comair situation could exist but there are some differences that I believe will reduce (but not eliminate) the likelihood of that happening. For example pilot hiring and the overall economy are exact opposites right now. The majors are actually starting to suck up regional pilots quite quickly. Unless the legacies can train fast enough to replace our capacity + their retirees (United has been doing terrible here) I don't see how we can disappear overnight unless they are willing to reduce their capacity a ton.

Uh, I'm not sure if parking planes, and 50-85 guys a month bailing to go to greener pastures really counts. Properly staffed sure, but for what reasons.

I know. But hiring with say a 2-1 replacement plan would have a better chance at retaining that staffing level. Than pure growth.

Right, but they haven't even given us that yet, and we haven't given them one list, and at the rate the unions are goin' we wont. I dunno man, I bailed, home based was the only silver lining. I'll be home based at the next gig too.

Good. Hope it works out for you!

Looking at the math for new commercial pilots we know the regionals are really not going to be able to hire anyone in 2-3 years at the most. We shall see what happens.

Thank You! ya I'm really interested to how this turns out as well. I've got the guard gig in my back pocket luckily, and I'm slowly realizing that I might have to go to grad school and switch industries, so I'm setting myself up for that as well. This stuff is crazy, I hope XJT pulls through with something, I really do, I only had 8 months of time invested, so it was kinda a no brainer for me.

When I was in training a long time ago, after the buyout, Jerry Atkin came into class and took questions. I asked him whats the 5 year outlook for skywest and got a lot of laughs from the crowd. His answer was he had no idea. Things change quickly in aviation so he couldn't give an accurate answer. I don't think they could orchestrate some grand scheme that far out in the future. Too many variables at play.
 
I really can't see the unions of ASA and XJT coming together with all these aircraft getting cut. XJT is taking it on the chin, why would ASA want to combine their list with that anchor?

Also, does it give guys a hard on to say "legacy" before their company name now?

If more of us studied something other than airplanes, basic explanations of the English language wouldn't be necessary.

Legacy:

a thing handed down by a predecessor.
"the legacy of centuries of neglect"
synonyms:
consequence, effect,upshot, spin-off,repercussion, aftermath, by-product, result
"a legacy of the wars"

Or maybe it's easier to say, that which once was. As in the carrier whose legacy was originally ExpressJet.

I don't think he really works there. He knows an awful lot about another airline that has a base where he lives, and must have a quick upgrade if he will be Skygod in less than a year from now. Buuuuut.....I'm not 100% sure. So don't quote me on that.
