If I put all my money on the DVR, I would have lost that money on last months bids. Instead, what was showing 0 on the DVR became 5 awarded PDX. Best way to gauge time... if there is one, is look where you stand on the bid list and if you are within 20 people you should not wait longer than 6 months. The reason I say that is by observing the rate that our seniority numbers are rising. It seems each week my number goes up 5-10 and that means many many people are moving on like explained above..
 
Also. Take a look at the standing bids for PDX/SEA. You will notice that many people there are currently based in SFO and they are just waiting to get awarded a NW base. That on top of upward movement will get you back home. Patience my friend, patience. In all reality, we are way better off these days. A few years ago people were commuting to reserve for over a year to get back home. I really don't think that's the case anywhere right now

I chuckled a little hearing this coming from you. I seem to recall giving you the same advice a couple months ago. The reality is that movement is strong everywhere. In the grand scheme of things everyone will end up where they want in short order. Unless of course you want SLC CA. In that case you may as well start digging your grave, cuz you'll make it there sooner.

I remember that advice. As fast as movement is I do understand @BEEF SUPREME had the same timing I did. Just one class prior people were pulling the base of your choice out of training, getting your hopes up then to see the movement stop as temporary as it is makes one start wishing they joined a month or two earlier.

In his case though, it seems SFO has a high turnover rate for ERJ FO's as the cost of living in that area requires wages about 150% higher than current FO rates just to put a roof over your head.

Just out of curiosity what was the reason for not moving to the base you were awarded after upgrade? Family? Location?

I have already told my wife that when I upgrade, we will be moving to the base I get awarded. Unless that's LAX or SFO. Same goes if I get on with a major or LCC down the road. Not much resistance to it on her part so I'm lucky I guess :)

2 months ago DVR said the CRJ only had openings in DTW. 13 FO'S got SLC that month and other bases including IAH, SEA, etc. I just look at the DVR for what can be guaranteed (I guess?) but really anything else can happen.

I'm not sure what's going on with the ERJ side but ORD on the CRJ side really isn't "junior" anymore.

Uprooting your family for a regional base is a pretty hard sell.

You're kidding right? Chicago is incredibly junior on the CRJ, I'd say when you can hold a line right out of training that's the definition of junior.

Mmmm, nope. That was true about 3 months ago. (I'm talking FO'S, not Captains)

The last new hire class to get ORD was January 15 class. Since Jan, we've had 10 transfers and they were all relatively senior FO's with about a year here. The standing bid list already up in the 60's with decent amount of senior folks that won't help the guys at the bottom even when they do transfer in. I'd like to imagine it will change but it sure doesn't look that way. I'll be bidding reserve probably until my transfer unless some magical lines pop up.

It WAS junior in the beginning of the year and you wouldn't sit reserve but then continous months of new hires flooding into DTW stopped that.

I'm sitting 246/269 in ORD. If I could make the DTW commute work I'd be 102/238. I've been paying a lot of attention to see if there is some movement so I can get a line....but I've lost hope that it'll happen. There is more movement of my name on my standing bid. I mean bases like SEA, COS, DEN, SLC have had more transfers in then ORD in the last 4 months.
 
Could somebody shed some light on how awards are processed in terms of the standing bid list. In particular if a senior pilot has multiple bases listed, if any of them become available, i.e.: DEN/SEA/SFO and then SFO becomes available , will he get awarded the base before a more junior pilot who has SFO listed as his first option? Would makes sense that it works that way but it is not clear in the pilot manual, or at least as far as I could tell.

Also, anybody know how long the wait for IOE is on the ERJ out of ORD? Been 4 weeks and not a peep...

That's how it goes. Seniority trumps first option/last option. So anyone above you trying to bid the base you want will get it first, even if it's their last option.

That's about right, it's currently about a 4-6 week wait for IOE, depending on check airman availability. I'd expect an email and your IOE to be scheduled soon.

You can always email and ask about your status too. Never know, might have slipped through the cracks...
