Skywest Questions

Marketability in the Asian market, should I ever need it. That and being 6'5, I wanted a bigger cockpit.

SJS... LOL. You must have been so caught up in your own world that you missed that I flew pistons in Alaska and w the US Forest Service for 2000+ hours before going to the regionals.

This is the kind of adversarial crap that makes me not post here anymore. I just popped in to share my experience at SKW and it devolves into the boo birds coming out and telling me how I got it wrong... Blah blah blah. Yet, not a single person who has posted could begin to predict what the next 5 years looks like in the industry.

SKW rocks. It's better than Ameriflight. ;) The people are great. I love the airplane. And I'm staying here until I can move on. That's it.

Enjoy your circle jerk, boys.

Guess that it's just not me that you're being a massive know it all dick to. I think that you need to take a seat! Hell take three.

Caught up in his own world? Sorry but there are how many members here? Kind of hard to remember who works where. Enjoy the heavy jet and no movement.

There was a dude (less than a year here) on APC talking about leaving for Republic because of the "endless reserve." If I'm on anything less than a year I'll ultimately be happy. 4 months after IOE and I should hold a line next month.

Do you realize that before I switched airplanes, I was on reserve some months with 3 years seniority? Should I have been unhappy?

What's this I'm reading on a certain other site about SAPA allowing pilots not on the SKW seniority list to fly SKW aircraft?

It's been talked about. Talking about letting retired Skywest pilots to do part 91 legs. Some are for it, some against. We will see what happens.

At a major or regional? When were you hired? Did the "music stop"?

Major / LCC reserve is better on its worst day than regional reserve. I begged to fly at my current shop because I was commuting in. Still couldn't crack > 6 hours per month. I was never JMd or extended into an off day and never had to call to check out. All of those things happened at the regionals. Guys on reserve were timing out in October...

October...

I was on Reserve at Colgan for probably 3 years of my 6.5 years there. Yet I hear folks bitch about reserve at Skywest....yeah....sure....

Nope, although it's probably a little more to be expected and not quite as crappy where you're at. I just think it's funny that guys here are complaining about being on reserve for "so long" when they haven't even been here 6 months. Yeah it blows but I'm not sure why they all bought the "you won't be on reserve" line that people were feeding us when I went through the schoolhouse.

Fair enough :) I learned my lesson about bidding aircraft vs QOL (ehem @GX) losing money for 18 months in ATL on the "CRJ heavy".

Took a $3/hour pay cut to fly the 200, went from 10 days off 75 hours to 90 credit hours 18 days off. That will stick with me for my career.

Carry on!

Edit to add: bid what you don't mind being when the music stops. Because stories abound at every carrier that when it stops, you'll be doing whatever it is you do for a potentially long time.
