Skywest Questions

There's a happy medium in there somewhere. The only time I've ever wished I had less gas was in meeting MLW, but whatever.
Thankfully the software looks at MLW at least granted it's expecting a much higher burn than we usually get, but I think I've only come close on that once in two years... Not a problem to fly a little lower or fly around with the gear out a bit earlier. Most of our fields have reasonably close alternates too though with the exception of Fairbanks, so you're not carrying too much gas for an alternate. Tho, local weather can mess that up too.. like the time freezing rain was in the TAF everywhere and they gave me MSO as an alternate for a SNA-SEA flight. Yuck.
But yeah. Too little gas.. bad. Too much gas... better problem to have but still bad. Happy medium, for sure. Like dispatchers that just review stuff and software that plans it right 99.9% of the time.

I feel like that's hard to do with this airplane
I got 200 problems, and MLW 47,000lb is one.

Don't think we ever came close in the 175, even with a distant alternate. Climb limits and RATOW in the summer out of Denver going to, say, RDU, were a much bigger deal.

I ordered 35min extra contingency the other day for SBN-MSP and I used every drop and then some.

EXCEEDS MAX LANDING WEIGHT

Just ask to be vectored off long final and drive with the brakes on and gas full power

I actually found myself wanting a sailboat the other day.

Problem with sailboats is the lack of normal continuous off time.
I live by FLL and work at APF. Spiffy ~40 foot sailboat would be the ideal crashpad, but then keys and back is about it for the off time cruise and that would get old pretty soon.

Fellow CA lives in a 36 foot camper that he keeps at really nice parks under the arrangement that the wife opens and closes the park etc. Awesome if you're into nature/hiking/kayaking.

Anybody know with the new reserve rules if you can just request days off in PBS and that's it, or do you need to still bid for reserve lines as well? TIA.
