Skywest pilot attempts to steal company plane

I got up with the normal feeling of early morning paranoia. Brush my teeth, turn the news on for 30 seconds to be sure there's no smoking hole and I guess the national news hadn't discovered the story yet.

It's been a bad habit since 9/11.
guess you and I are different. I check phone first.

They'll probably be some time consuming procedure to make it more difficult for a single person to successfully get a airliner out now, like taxiing/tugging into a position where you need a tug to push you back from, etc.

Sad that yet another pilot had issues, didn't get help, and in the end took his life. Wish he could of gotten the help he most needed. RIP.

On a bit of a different tangent, I suppose it is safe to assume that it's the end of the runway for an airframe after something like this, right? How does all of that work? I presume that SKW will get an insurance payout, the insurance company auctions off the airframe to the highest bidder for salvage, and the salvage operation strips out everything they can turn around and sell. Is that about right?

I would also imagine that they would just cut the airframe up right there, seeing as how it's a little too large for truck transport.

Always been curious about the little details like that. I'm weird.

That is what I am saying. Guy must have been tanked.

Powering back ain't easy. The CRJ isn't actually approved for it as the engines tend to FOD when operated at reverse without forward momentum. Also, the jet doesn't taxi very well backwards. About 3 years ago I had a very ambitious tug driver in LGA pushing us back at a pretty good clip, right up until the point where the towbar disconnected from the nose gear. I didn't have an engine going or anything and slamming on the brakes was a sure way to tip the plane over backwards so I had to try to steer the plane backwards away from the Continental MX hangar we were careening towards while just barely tapping the brakes to get it slowed and hoping the FO could get an engine started in a hurry.

It may very well come out that this guy was tanked but starting up and maneuvering off a jetway with out a tug is way harder than you'd think.

Sad day man. I know a lot of us use humor to defuse tense situations, but some of the comments aren't appreciated by those who knew him. Remember, two people are dead and kids are going to grow up without their mom wondering what went wrong.

This asshat is going to make my life more difficult, I feel bad for the kids but screw him. If you can't deal with the game, bail, I'm real tired of people making excuses for maniacs.

Some airports, damaged planes which are writeoffs get towed over to the fire training area for egress/extrication/full-scale fire training for ARFF crews.

Please tell us what is "the game"? Life? Airlines? Do you know exactly what made this person tick? No you don't. As politely as I can say it, shut up.

I know nothing about the guy, except that he allegedly killed his wife, hopped in a plane, and then killed himself. For someone to go off the deep end like that isnt just cracking under pressure, its a serious mental issue. I had a very good friend who hit a rough patch mentally and its scary what a few chemicals in someones head can turn them into. Wasn't even the same person sometimes.

Its easy for people, pilots especially to say "suck it up and move on," but I can guarantee you if its something you've ever had to deal with you would be singing a different tune.

First people defend he JetBlue FA, then the CA, now this guy? Comical.

Dude, I dont think anyone is trying to defend them, Its just when you're talking about serious psychological issues, the people who perform the crazy actions are literally not them selves.

Or, its possible that it was them all along, just well hidden. Just depends on the individual.
