Clearly thus needed to be put up on YouTube for everyone to ridicule.

To actually feel that punishment and physical harm should come to a guy trying to help everybody out is just disgusting, and goes against everything I believe in.
I'm just glad ATN is leaving the profession. Good riddance.
I was referring to ATNs statements, not yours. His animosity to anyone who does not agree with his point of view is embarrassing.
With the talk about the wheelchairs. I see SWA pilots all the time helping out with wheelchairs during the boarding process. They are union as are the rampers. Perhaps they get initial and recurrent in wheelchair ops?
I doubt he knew all that. Counsel him and move on.
I'm just saying its likely he didn't know he was stepping on toes. Now the ramp riding was plain youthful dumbassness.I think that would be fine. Have an assistant chief pilot call him in to explain to him that he can't do the job of a unionized ramper. I'm not advocating that the guy get fired or suspended. He just needs a wake up call.

I don't think you really comprehend what the problem is here.
It should not be tolerated by any trade unionist.
As a "union" ramper, that's hilarious. Our union could not give less of a crap about us other than getting their cut of our paychecks.HE WAS VIOLATING THE RAMPER'S CONTRACT!

CWA. Pretty much everyone at the company agrees that they sold us up the river. Not to mention I make less money now than I would have if they hadn't been voted in because they agreed to that joke of a contract we have. Glad they're looking out for me!I have no idea who your union is. Maybe it's weak, maybe it's not. Maybe you're right, or maybe you're just bitter and uninformed like so many ALPA members. But I do know this: if a Pinnacle pilot tossed bags in a place like PHL where NWA rampers worked our flights, their union most certainly "gave a crap." I know because I handled the representation. Our base manager was less than pleased that he got a call from NWA Human Resources because of the grievance that was filed by the ramper. NWA didn't like paying out settlements because one of our yahoos thought it would be great to "go above and beyond."
Heck yeah I would bonus points if it's summer (and nice and cool inside) and extra extra bonus points if it is winter and nice and toasty inside. So let's say you get to your airplane in the morning and you find that one of the rampers has already powered up the aircraft and started the APU for you ... you know, because we all have to help each other out at the airport. He tells you he plays a lot of flight sim so he knows the basics of starting up your aircraft. Are you going to give him a big old pat on the back for being a team player?
Are you guys seriously still arguing about this? You all sound like whiny little kids on a playground because Joey didn't give the swing to Billy. Grow up.
Look, it's simple. The guy who took video is an immature brat. Just because someone else wants to help out is no reason to deride them. "Ooo, you're helping the company, aren't you buddy?" Are you kidding me? The Skywest guy is an idiot, because anyone who rides a belt loader is an idiot, ramper or not. It especially looks bad as a crewmember, because you're supposed to be a professional who is "above" that sort of stuff. Take the long way around and save yourself the dignity.
You are making a huge deal about something that is a non event (well, bypassing security isn't, but that's not what you guys are bellyaching about). Would you do it? Maybe not, but who gives a rats ass? This guy thought throwing bags was worth it, and that's his deal, not yours.
Seriously, the world needs more libertarians.
