Skywest pilot antics in IAH

There are no sets of circumstances that would result in my climbing the belt loader.

I have once. It wasn't moving though and I was doing it under direction of MX Control so I figured if something happened I would be covered. It was also day 4 and was the difference between getting home and being stuck someplace I REALLY didn't want to be stuck for another day.

That video is just absurd though.

Ah, alright - maybe there is a set of circumstances, then.

The video is pure silliness. The voiceover is even, er, classier though.

Don't agree at all with riding a belt loader. Just a bad idea in a lot of ways.

The voice over though, really is FAR more unprofessional. Considering the only other company that parks next to SkyWest in IAH, it's pretty easy to determine who they work for. Unfortunately, not surprising. As a SkyWest pilot operating out of IAH every couple of weeks, I've encountered what can only be classified as pure hatred by some ExpressJet pilots. I really don't understand the attitude at all. Fortunately most ExpressJet folks are professionals and friendly. But there are DEFINITELY some real angry people at that company and base.

It's possible it was one of "ours" - I mean, my reaction might have been "wow, really, you really don't want to jump on that thing" - but yeah.

I should also add... I help with bags very often. No, it's not part of my job. But it is in my nature to help out. Am I risking an OJI that might not be covered? Possibly... But considering my workouts consist primarily of lifting heavy ass barbells, my risk is low. Honestly, I enjoy the opportunity to actually get a little exercise once in awhile.

But to hear the venom in the commentators voice when all this guy is doing is helping? It is the voice of a pathetic being.

Nah, I know too many guys who got hurt at work doing things outside of their job scope, directed or not directed, that didn't qualify for an OJI and blew through their sick time.

No flippin' thanks. Especially after a ground pounder got decapitated in PHX (not my airline) trying to 'go the extra mile' in the bag room)

Well the video is not available anymore, so someone want to describe it? As an IAH based SKW I wanted to see if I would recognize them. :) And honestly, I've never run into any nasty ExpressJet crews here. They've all been nice to me as have most CAL guys. (one guy ruined it though)

During our training we were told to never handle bags unless it was needed to clear the cargo doorway for a fire in the back. Like others have said I would stand in the doorway and greet pax as they came in or hold an umbrella up when there was a downpour.

What an idiot, there's nothing wrong with helping out within your duties but then you get these tool bags who go way over the line thinking their one stupid act will save the company millions or in Skywests case obtain more flying. Does Skywest have a medal for these types of overachievers?
