Very true. I agree 100%. Even with the last post about Mesaba's deal.

But one check does not a trend make. And ALPA being able to bring a carrier back to the standard they had before they conceded it, while good, is not as good as it should be and should be spoken of as a "thank gosh" rather than a victory speech.

How does Mesaba look compared to SkyWest right now? I'm not saying SKW is the golden child airline and passing Kool Aid around... I just can't justify bringing in ALPA for the sake of trying to "get a deal like we already have".

I agree when dark times hit that nobody is exempt. The ups and downs of our industry are very visible. People who do not recognize this are living in a dream world. I am very awake.

Thanks for the insight guys. I really enjoy educated non-bashing debate from the ALPA front. It is a welcomed relief from some of the stuff I read on forums. Fly safe.

It'd be like me telling (lemme think of someone I haven't met, gimme a sec...) it'd be like me telling (man, this is hard! ah!) "Junior" that I'm going to whip his ace when I couldn't even point him out in a police lineup.

This is another place I think ALPA missed the boat. They made promises of getting copies out there to pilots when an organization was taking place, and then didn't follow through with it. Sorry they didn't get voted in, but if you make a promise, KEEP IT!

they had copies at every organization event that I went to... even better, when I filled out my card they sent me copies of Flying The Line and Volume 2.... I just started reading it and I'm more than happy to forward it on when I'm done.
 
Yeah, I remember now. However, as you know, we had tons of copies of those books at all of the event, so anybody could stop by and grab copies. We were even handing them out to guy sat RAH, NetJets, etc...

That is where I see the problem (or next step needing to be done). This knowledge needs to get to the pilots BEFORE getting into the 121 world. It needs to start when in training and when instructing (or other mode to build time). Nice if you were at an event, but ALOT of people here are in the process of getting there.

And yes, I filled out the form and did not recieve the books. Sorry Seggy, it didn't seem to work out for me.

True.

Just flew with a former ExpressJet MEC member and we all need to lobby ALPA to crank up the education program again.

I remember when I was in college, I could sign up to receive "Airline Pilot" magazine and received a number of educational materials. But I'm not sure if that program is still around anymore.

I agree completely. The problem is finding enough volunteers and resources to get it done. Someone earlier mentioned ERAU career fairs. ALPA used to attend these fairs. A Delta Captain named Frank Mayne used to attend a lot of them. He's since retired, and not many people step up to do the foot soldier work that Frank was well known for doing. I wanted to help, but my time was usually tied up in organizing activities or MEC and committee work at Pinnacle. It's just not easy to find people that are willing to devote their time off to this work, and the people that are willing to do it are usually already working on other projects.

I love it when the true colors come out. No real point to be made other than crying.

Good luck with that.

I agree that education about the industry is key. Maybe we should pass flyers around "JET UNIVERSITY" about industry economics and factors. It would be good to get that started early.


...Or maybe pamphlets on how to break knee caps and deny jump seats to "non unionites". Once again, good luck living in the past.
