Skywest Hiring?

Pardon me for injecting yet another useless opinion in this matter, but if we do end up integrating everyone together wouldn't we be using snapshots of the seniority list on the day of the announced merger? Isn't that what Delta and NW did?

That's normally what happens, but keep in mind, a guy on furlough at the time of the snapshot has zero career expectations, even if he or she can expect to be recalled soon because of planned retirements or what not. So it would probably come down to legal actions (see: US Airways) to decide whether the furloughed guys have any seniority compared to new hires AFTER the merger when they got slotted in to the list.

Now here's a question. What happens to the shareholders of XJT? Will it just get turned into Skywest stock at 1:1 or will they get a "credit" towards Skywest stock?

Ummm....

I'll revert to my answer for when people think I'm a gate agent "Sorry, don't know the answer to that, I just drive the bus"

The latter, at a value of $6-something per share of XJT stock.

It's official: SkyWest is running two newhire classes for the Brasilia, 20 students each, Aug 30 and Sept 13. Camielle sent out an email offering those class dates to poolies; not sure how many are in the pool or what happens if they don't get enough takers.

Personally I think it would be fair to staple the furloughees on the bottom of the list that existed at the time of the announcement. There's your seniority list, the logic being that furloughees did have a seniority number at the time of the announcement. Anything that happens after that gets added onto the bottom.

But my opinion and $4 will buy a cup of coffee at starbucks :)

And heeeere comes the whipsaw.

Jumping the gun maybe? Anything is possible of course but jeeze, hiring is good! And good news is good news!

Normally yes, but with SkyWest having just acquired ExpressJet (with 175 furloughed pilots), hiring on the SkyWest side is a bad thing. It's an affront to those of us who've been on furlough for the past two years, and sets the stage for future whipsaw of SkyWest, ASA, and ExpressJet pilot groups.

One list or nothing.

So we all agree that the right thing for SkyWest to do is to offer positions to any furloughs (most senior furlough being offered the first class) from the other certificates, and abiding by the recall terms of the contract from which certificate they've been furloughed.

And once upon the SLI being complete, those individuals made whole with their standing on the combined list on it's effective date.

Right? We're all on the same page on this one?

I'd agree with that. I think that's fair for all involved, but of course, it's SkyWest; in the end they'll do whatever they want to do. In fact, keeping ASA and XJT separate is all part of the grand scheme. :)

EDIT: I should really just stay out of these threads... They're annoying, and my resignation has probably already been sent to XJT. Just want to see the other furloughed pilots get a fair deal.

I disagree with everything you say, no matter how much sense you make.

It's my opinion that you're wrong, and I'm entitled to my opinion!

My only thought on that is they just proposed to acquire expressjet. As far as I know, nothing is finalized. :dunno: Kind of like not putting gas in my tank because I'm thinking of buying a new car next month :)

but if express jet is acquired by the ASA side....and they stay on the east coast, and the Skywest brand name stays on the west coast, while operating 2 different certificates...why should they have to offer Express Jet pilots a job on the west coast certificate? I'm not saying that it wouldn't be nice, of course!! I just don't see how this will become a whipsaw..

Do you know what a whipsaw is?

Like you SkyGods want to get stuck in a stinky little turboprop anyway! I kid, I kid. I agree with Polar entirely, please don't put me on any Lists.

List? What list?

You don't hear anybody knocking on your front door yet? Don't run if you do, they're nice guys.

As long as you don't charge me billable hours for your opinion, we're all right.
