SkyWest Hiring FOs

Anyone know how the current outlook for 2012 is, in terms of hiring?

Last I heard was about the classes scheduled through November or December, if I recall correctly. Into 2012 they "plan" on hiring, but I have not heard of any solid class dates yet.

What's skywests reserve schedule like? How many days off a month and is it 5 on 3 off generally or how do they structure it. Is it am or pm home reserve and do they have airport reserve? Thanks for the info.

Minimum days off is 11 nowadays. We have PM/AM and also long call reserve lines. The cadence depends on the reserve line you choose, it is typically 5/3 or soWe call airport reserve 'ready reserve' and there is too much of it at times. It is typically assigned at the end of a reserve pairing when you want nothing more than to go home. The way things are moving, new hires aren't spending too much time on reserve right now. But you never know, as a junior captain I've been stuck on reserve now for over 4 years. YMMV.

Thanks dude, I'm with a regional now was hired on in June after I was offered another interview with Skywest next month. Kinda havin a hard time thinking of making a decision if I'm offered a spot with Skywest , I have always wanted to fly with Skywest since throwing bags for them in college but I've heard things have changed their. What's everyones perspective of Skywest these days? better of the regionals or just the standard with nicer destinations and better bases. I'd like to move back west. I miss it.

Are you sure about that? I could swear it was 13 days off/mo. I remember thinking it was nice to have that extra guaranteed day off compared to a line. Are you thinking of the old agreement?

Prim, I was hired in April and spent two months on reserve. It wasn't bad at all, but I lived in base. I know some people have not had such a good experience though.

11 days off for reserve lines.

Prim-

If you are making a lateral move, it can be tough for sure. SkyW is still a pretty good place to be overall. Things have changed since I was hired, but overall for me personally I probably couldn't have landed at a better regional. Very subjective of course, but it isn't too shabby here. I can even say that after 5+ cumulative years of commuting to reserve too, so you know it can't be too terrible.

We have our issues like any other place and I do disagree with management's actions from time to time (more often than not lately). That said, the guys running the ship have gotten us to this point so far. I just hope they can get back to our roots of really taking care of our people first, then sit back and watch the airline run like a champ. Time will tell. Good luck with your decision, losing seniority over a lateral move isn't an easy case to make typically.

This.

I'm quite sure. I'm the author of our 'Reserve Survival Guide', know the rules pretty well ;)

Is that document available for public consumption? Sounds like it would be a very interesting read for those considering the regional world.

I'd be happy to PM it to you, may not make much sense though since a lot of it refers to policy. But probably wouldn't hurt to have a look at.

PM works. OO is definitely on my short list of potential employers so all the intel I can gather is a plus.

Just gotta get a lot more multi......

Tallflyer,

I'll sell you some of mine, and I'll throw in the Jet time for free, since I know you...

.

WRONG! It's 12. I know because of my schedule.

Mine too for November, but it's an anomaly. 11 is the min guaranteed days off (formerly 10), occasional months depending on the bid period we get an extra day. Been like that for years.

From what I can tell, my buddy over there doesn't have too much to complain about. He's off just about every weekend and says he averages about 13 days/month (!) But complain he does! Mostly about the pay...

For context, he's a fairly high seniority F/O on the barbie out of Houston. Been there about four and change.
