Side Commentary from “Extra things you had on your application…”

Back in my reserve days at PSA I was on day 2 of a 5 day block and when I woke up I happened to see a trip on my schedule. At that point it was about an hour before show time and I had no missed calls or voicemails showing on my phone. So I called CS and they said yeah we've called you 3 times and left messages. So I got up and got ready and as soon as I stepped out the door all of the sudden the calls and messages popped up. Needless to say they weren't to happy. I almost go a no contact put on me because of that.

I do have an app in with CalFire. I probably have too much airline stank on me at this point, though, unfortunately. I have family, so being on the road alone ten months out of the year doesn't work anymore. But flying tankers has been my dream job since I was 12. I wish there was a way to follow up on my app and say "hey, about this: I'm really interested in this." I did talk to a couple of CF pilots through my network who said it sounded like I'd be a good fit, but I don't know if there's anything else I can do but wait.

The thing is, I have more than a dozen apps out, and it's been radio silence on all of them.

I don't know what's wrong with my "brand," but whatever it is, I ain't selling.

Amentum out in MCC has some ads out for pilot spots for their calfire contract.

Yep, app is in.
.... or not. I went to check on it.

I truly don't get it. I love how they didn't even send me an email.

Because:

Using the free internet on their company device… thousands of miles away.
Logging into the pilot scheduling computer, with an IP address from… thousands of miles away.
Posting on social media about sitting short call reserve, on the beach, with family on an island… thousands of miles away.

And then we can get to the metadata. That’s a treasure trove! :)
They'll never know. 😂

I always feel like I live in a different world when people are complaining about not flying on reserve.

I'm on day 5 of my reserve block. Day one was a 3am call, 5am show for a two day, back home at 7pm. Day three was a 3am call, 5am show for a 3-day.

That's my normal reserve block. I get two days off and then I'm back to another 5-day block, where I'm expecting another 3am call... you get the idea.

If you hadn’t left the first time, what kind of schedules would that seniority hold now days?

I
What does it matter? I'd be a mid-seniority lineholder and slightly less unhappy, but I wouldn't have been able to have surgery.

So no LOA type options available in the airlines or at yours specifically? I guess that made your decision easy then.

@Skåning

LOA is at company discretion. At my shop, they require FMLA, which requires a doctor's note. My surgeon would only sign for twelve weeks of FMLA, since I could "work" after twelve weeks. But what I couldn't do (without spending 30 minutes per leg in the lav, and bleeding all over the seat, and severely damaging my healing process was work airline type schedules.

I can provide intimate details, including pictures, if people are really having this much trouble understanding my decision.

If you don't want to get into the really fun details, then please just accept that the decision I made was for the best.
