Side Commentary from “Extra things you had on your application…”

I still, to this day, do not know what I did different at my AA interview that got me the job. I have my thoughts, but I'll never know for certain. One answer I gave might have been my savior even though I swore on that 2 hour flight from DFW to home, it was what did me in from not getting a day of CJO.

This was after my application/interview went to the review board before I was given a CJO a week later. Out of 13 people in my interview group, I was one of 4 who didn't get a CJO that day. The AA interview was the last one out of Spirit, Southwest, Allegiant, Breeze,Jetblue (which I waited out the pandemic to be told TBNT after a face to face) and I'm sure I'm forgetting one. I was bitter, I was angry at everyone moving on from the regional except me. And I was really pissed at myself for not being able to figure out WTF I was doing wrong. I don't interview well, that much was certain.

I don't know if the secret sauce changed (like what they were looking for credentials-wise), if I did something in my interview or phrased something better than I had been doing in my previous 5 attempts. I had done prep with 3 different companies. I spent big money (to me) having my electronic logbook professionally printed out and adding some personal touches when I got it back.

I don't know what I did, but I kept on going. It has been worth it on many levels and considering how some of the companies I interviewed with have gone, AA was the best one I could have done for a lot of reasons. It sucks, keep going, you'll get there. Somehow.

Oh word? How does that work, like talk therapy or something? Does it start from the assumption that work is the only problem? 😀

I’m currently ready to take a yuge pay cut and move to a new city thinking I’ll be happier at an airline (yeah).

We have on-campus and online resources to ask questions.

Turns out I have a mild level of “Imposter’s Syndrome” as when I’d go into meeting with certain people, my anxiety would spike. Apparently, not my words, most high-achieving people have it which is part of one of the base mechanisms pushing that drive.

Think of occupational therapists taking the role that Guinan plated in “Star Trek”.

My trip to 'lanna that was 'successful' was the one about which I gave the fewest damns and for which I was "unprepared" insofar as engaging the various snake oil firms. (Which, that's not fair to Centerline, really, but you get the idea.) I do not recommend this approach as universal, but it was really entertaining to sit there with my jacket off while everyone hopped from foot to foot scared to death.

Can always ring the bell. Ring the bell and all the pain goes away. Get a nice hot meal, a cold beer, all in a relaxing setting. Why put up with misery and abuse?

Don’t stay in a place that’s miserable. And don’t necessarily place all eggs in one basket of aviation, especially when there are options. And some good ones these days. Might one have to go where the job is? Perhaps. Sometimes, gotta weigh whether being miserable in place, is better than being happier in another geographic area where a better job is.

I'm not in f—ing BUD/S or SERE. Those things have defined outcomes, and to my knowledge, they involve training, testing and qualification. This isn't even the military—I sure as heck wouldn't sign my life away to serve the shareholders or BOD like I would to serve my country. Working a job where you get kicked in the teeth repeatedly to make money for a bunch of rich d-bags is not comparable*.

If this is directed at me, I currently live in base at the only option I have—if there are other options, I sure don't know what or where they are.

* I recognize that if you dive far enough down the philosophical rabbit hole, the military is effectively serving the same people.

In the end our jobs are all what we make of them. We either accept what's happening or we reach a point where we move on......That is definitely different for each of us.

It’s actually a description of one of my former coworkers who is/was in a similar spot, notably as it comes to what he was told, versus what really was. About 6 months ago, took a DEC job at SKW, has lots of corporate jet time in Gulfstreams and a few type ratings; was kind of spinning his wheels flying a light helo with us in terms of what he could be doing 121-wise with his qualifications, type ratings, and hours.. Lives in TUS, and was told he could be TUS based reserve. Turns out, he was always getting sent to somewhere on the east to sit Reserve, DTW maybe? Said the grind was pretty tough and ultimately not really worth it vis a vis the position he was in with seniority and bidding ability with not much end in sight. Even though there were some good people there; there were people always questioning of how/why he was there, implying the position as DEC was undeserved or something.

Eventually rang the bell, so to speak, and quit the job there after all of this…..the whole idea of there being two buckets: a worth-it bucket and a BS bucket, and whichever one overflows first, will define what you do. The BS bucket was overflowing, while the worth-it bucket was steady at about 20% full. Some good people and nice planes to fly, but the company and how it was run, and the schedule grind was an aviation form of prison work program. Went to go fly fixed-wing EMS, I believe somewhere in the northwest, and enjoys the heck out of it; with these days making some good money with base pay and location modifier.

I am :)

Just calling out the system hiring people bending 767s when more qualified, accident-free, and friendly people are available. And remember, I didn’t create this thread. The frustrated people outside looking to get in, and seeing the insanity, did. And I agree with em.
I honestly don’t think you have a clue what system you’re even referring to. He is a very capable pilot, who was dealt a crap sandwich from the company. Things happen beyond your control sometimes. Don’t be jealous of a very capable pilot who was hired at Delta when you couldn’t get an interview. Let it go. This is getting old.

As a April Fools Day joke, if I wasn’t on a boat, err, ship, I was going to create a macro where if “Mono-wing mid powered single-engine PIper, straight and level” said the word “Delta” it would parse this in an auto reply from @NewsBot:

Again. Focus. Jealous? No. Calling out a BS system? Yes. You responded with emotions, not facts.

Emotion: he’s a great guy who got a tough sandwich.

Fact: He bent a 767 and still got hired at a big 4, while many other qualified, very capable, nice personality, haven’t bent metal candidates did not get called.

I like facts over emotions.

I thought my quota with you was filled. You know you like it. 🥳

This is my kink today, songs about simmering jealousy! :) if I could just make a relatively thicc playlist of songs about “Jealousy” then add a button on the forum where a user can just do something like #jealous, it could post a random song from the playlist of songs about, you know, “jealousy”

This has nothing to do with you, I’m geeking-out
