Side Commentary from “Extra things you had on your application…”

Way too many words. I’m not seeking conversation, I’m telling you what you look like to the world outside your head.

Seriously, occupational therapy may be a solution for you.

I’ve done it, it’s amazing.

Are those 1000+ applicants pleasurable to sit by for 7 days? Can they be accountable when they F up? How do they treat their co workers? There’s people out there with spotless records and they’re douchebags (sorry if I can’t say that), nightmares for any CA they fly with or a HR liability. I’d sit next to someone who bent metal and learned from it any day vs. the latter example.

As for the rest of the post all I can say is that you have to play the game. The only failure I’ve had is my CFII initial and I’ve never been in any trouble at my previous jobs and always took care of my customers. That’s fine and dandy but you gotta be able to convey that in the 45min-1hr you get with the interviewers. For me my foot is irresistible under stress but thankfully I landed somewhere where the check matches the name on the side of the plane.

I say all that to say keep playing the game if you want a prize. It can be frustrating and we all know someone who shouldn’t have been hired but they played the game.

Only been a major CA since 2018 but I will say - and accident history backs it up - if I had to choose, I’ll take the competent flyer even if he is an • to get along with. My #1 ask is someone who can safely fly, so the industry doesn’t have another Atlas 767 or Colgan Q400.

You can hurt my feelings, just don’t hurt the airplane. (Only one of those results in fatalities).

Hiring a guy who bent a 767 in a timeframe when there ARE people who are nice, pleasure to fly with, and haven’t bent planes - is a BS system and should be called out as such.

And explain that in a liability system? Say tomorrow a DL 767 crashed, and it turns out the pilot involved bent a previous 767. After watching the media fallout for the Colgan Capt, I would hate to be that pilots wife or kids. They’re gonna take em to the cleaners - and dead people can’t defend themselves.

Look, I’m just being honest - and you can search my post history on it. I am a zero tolerance guy on multiple failures in this industry. No no me owes you a job or a guaranteed continuous job. You fail over and over again, you ought to be told to never fly again and change careers. If the Colgan CA was told that, 49 people would still be alive today. And it’s not just me, look up the recent accidents. Atlas at IAH, Colgan at BUF.

The flying public deserves better.

You don't know the full story as there are certain things that will disallow someone from being hired.

So you're choose Kardashian-level gossip over common sense.

You will be so much happier once you settle with the fact that the pretty girl you wanted to dance with had other plans. She doesn't eve remember your name, but there she is, living rent-free in your head.

Let her go. She's let you go and forgotten your name.

Tell me you got lucky on your checkrides without telling me you got lucky on your checkrides.

DPE/FSDO’s are subjective and a crap shoot. I’d absolutely hire someone with a couple failures if they’ve recovered from those failures and show a positive trend. It shows how they deal with career adversity.

If I see someone with zero issues throughout training, the first time they have problems with the training department, who knows how that’s gonna play out.

The growth you've gone through absolutely amazes me. Thank you for starting to post again because your insight is valuable AF.

Someone who has had absolutely zero failures in their evolution to becoming an airline pilot is "The Great Unknown" because they will face difficulties one day and who knows how they'll react. A number of years ago, I had one of these "Went to Riddle, 4.0, fast track to mainline because he's awesome that I went to CQ with. Something as simple as a repeated maneuver sent him in a angry/sad/tearful rage because he's "NEVER repeated anything, EVER" and how dare the instructor make him repeat a maneuver"

Meanwhile, the candidate with a scuffed knee or two knows about how easy failure can be and built tools to mitigate the probability of failing again.

Show me someone that breezed through training and never had any headwinds and someone who has failed a checkride and that failure completely changed his approach to training, I'll take the guy with the failure ANY DAY.

There’s enough seats at career destinations for anyone already in the industry right now. The math is the math. Some want it more than others.

If you arent getting the calls you want, I would ask what are you doing to improve your chances? What are you doing to improve your resume? What are you doing to improve yourself?

Well, that was taken out of context. If you want to take this to PM - I'm all ears. That's a pretty low blow, even for you. Are you still distraught about Delta not giving you the time of day?

Of course.

It’s the feeling that a high schooler feels when he writes a love song for his “crush” hoping to get her attention, but Johnny Football Hero intercepts the note and plays sings it for her as he plays guitar.

“My song! MY GIRL!”

But that’s why I advocate “Better Help” for travel professionals. No need for him to wallow in misery the rest of his career.

Nope. I’ve realized my personal attachment to the NYC base was silly. My family was still a 6.5 hr drive. Between rest area stops, flying nonstop LA to PIT is almost comparable. And in-laws were in DTW, which meant we had to fly to go see them anyway.

You’ll have to ask me when I retire, that’s the only way to know for sure. But I’m glad I didn’t do a Ctrl-Alt-Reset in 2020 to chase some pilot base at the big 3.

Get over yourself. Weird, only Delta pilots on this forum think so highly of themselves and come off with a smug attitude.

Betterhelp would really be beneficial for you and I say this out of seriousness and well, love for my fellow aviator.

Seeking validation through me is weird, it’s like you’re an ex girlfriend that I ghosted back from high school that wrote me “You know I don’t think about you anymore” letters in college when I just wish she’d move on and stop writing.

Please don’t make me show you examples of your obsession.

Nevermind, @SteveC already did. Oops!

You sure seem to be fixated on Delta though. I won’t speculate what drives that, but skimming these posts…

[ Search results for query: Delta [

7 pages of hits, 40 posts per page…

Well search for American and United, circa 2016-2019, and you’ll find equal interest in wanting to leave for their NYC base too.

Here’s my CA upgrade announcement from 2018 where I made my interest clear:

“If I get a call at the big 3 in the next 12 months, I'm gone. I think that's the career plan at the moment.”

Cool.

Please enjoy the website with a positive approach.

I am :)

Just calling out the system hiring people bending 767s when more qualified, accident-free, and friendly people are available. And remember, I didn’t create this thread. The frustrated people outside looking to get in, and seeing the insanity, did. And I agree with em.

He's not thinking about you, don't think about him.

The story may not even be accurate, but you're far more too emotionally invested in other people's business which you have no true knowledge of other than what you read on a forum somewhere.

That's not healthy. But you know this.

I'm literally down to a single more reply to you that I'm willing to make today, make it worthwhile. I have my limits to satisfying your need for my attention

Oh word? How does that work, like talk therapy or something? Does it start from the assumption that work is the only problem? 😀

I’m currently ready to take a yuge pay cut and move to a new city thinking I’ll be happier at an airline (yeah).
