shuting down in FL???

Don't even have to go out on US-1, just take Saint Lucie Boulevard out of the airport and turn into Ari-Ben...same training about 75% less what you would spend at Pan Am...and about 1/3 of what you would pay at Flight Safety. Everyone forgets Ari-Ben is on the field with PanAm.

So what's going to happen to the IPs? Move or stay to AZ?

Anyone?

[/ QUOTE ]

I think about 2/3 of the instructors plan on moving to Phoenix. As for me, I'm leaning toward FSI, possibly Aviator to finish my training. Any advice on which school? Any thoughts on Direct Track vs. Flight instructor at FSI?

I'd give you advice if I could actually give you informed advice on the schools. But I haven't attended any of them, so any words from me on one over the other would be disingenuous.

Others here have good poop, though.

Word on the street is that they are giving you guys until July 1 to finish any and all ratings. If you are interested in FlightSafety or Ari Ben, I'd make sure to act before then. Are they still making people wait a full 90 days before issuing refunds for training?

Good luck to the all the Pan Am CFIs. Hopefully for those moving, it won't be too painful.

Word from them was doors close sometime by the end of July. Students that want to continue training may do so until then. Those that chose to move to Phoenix will get moved as they finish their current ratings. The $2000 termination fee will not apply. Refunds according to my contract will be made no earlier than 30 days and no later than 60 days, but I'm not sure if they will try get the refunds out sooner due to the situation. Again, any advice on FSI v. Aviator and Direct Track v. Instructor Track at FSI from anyone out there would be appreciated.

From AOPA

"PAN AM ACADEMY TO CLOSE FLORIDA LOCATION, MOVE WEST
Ravaged by two hurricanes last summer and fearing other potential training delays for its customers, Pan Am International Flight Academy is moving its Fort Pierce, Florida, operation to the sunny and dry Southwest. The company's Deer Valley, Arizona, facility will absorb the Florida operation over the next four months, according to Pan Am President Wally David. "Given the uncertainties of Florida hurricanes and summer thunderstorms, we just didn't feel we could deliver on our value proposition to our customers without making a change," said David. Training delays are particularly troubling for Pan Am's foreign airline customers, which count on pilots completing a curriculum at a certain time in order to move into airline positions. As the Florida customers finish a rating, they will be transitioned to the Arizona location. Pan Am will waive its usual early withdrawal financial penalty if a customer decides not to make the move."

"Given the uncertainties of Florida hurricanes and summer thunderstorms, we just didn't feel we could deliver on our value proposition to our customers without making a change,"

What the heck is value proposition? Sounds like a bunch of double talk to me. I think what he needs to say is "We can make more money, considering the current state of affairs with our flight academy, if we shut down the FL campus and consolidate it all to the AZ campus. This is strictly a business decision and we regret any inconvience to our students"

Re: From AOPA

One of my friends who instructs at the Ft. Pierce campus is moving to AZ. I'm sure they will lose some in the process though. It seems to me that it would make good sense to not have two operations. Having two like that would make for really high fixed costs. They still owe me $500... I need to look into that before they shut down the FPR office.

Re: From AOPA

Is PanAm paying or at least assisting the CFIs employeed by them in a move to AZ? Since technically the CFIs haven't been fired, and this was something out of their control, I think PanAm should do something for them instead of saying "tough luck and thanks for the cash."

Re: From AOPA

I'm honestly surprised they are letting students out of their contracts and not charging them 2 large for leaving.

[/ QUOTE ]well, when you really think about it, they're going to maintain the Orlando, Vero Beach and Miami area's... by saying it's "hurricane related" can't really be true because then they'd have to shut down the other 3 as well. it's not like hurricane's only hit the Ft. Pierce area. In fact, hurricanes typically hit the miami area first....

maybe saying the truth would work better? like "We received a substancial amount of damage at the Ft. Pierce location due to last year's hurricane season and realized it was not fiscally possible to keep the Ft. Pierce location operational"

IMO, anyone and their mother is going to know that's a "half-truth" and "half-truthing" presidents don't normally make for a overall "good" company feeling.

the interesting thing is that someone is updating the website.. or at least the press release section of the website....

Half truths probably, but there is a lot less weather down time for sims and they are easier to protect them than GA planes and aluminum hangers. I agree they should just say they are cutting their losses...

Re: From AOPA

I visited the FL campus just last month, and one thing I don't get is that they were in middle of rebuilding the place. All the offices were being rebuilt and the CRJ sim was being installed when I was there. Can anyone tell me why they are doing this and then leaving? It doesn't make sense to me...

Re: From AOPA

Wait. Re-building and installing a CRJ sim, then leaving? They aren't just leaving, they're getting ready to sell the place to someone.......
